COACH ELLIOTT ON MACLEAY: "Katie is a competitor and plays hard on the field with and without the ball. Her competitive nature and work ethic drew us to her instantly. Katie has a great stick and has potential to play on both ends of the field and in the midfield. We are excited Katie has decided to come west to continue her athletic and academic career."
HIGH SCHOOL: Macleay averaged 5.5 points per game in her four years at Sherwood Forest. She made Annapolis High School's varsity squad her sophomore season, playing in every game and helping the Panthers to a 9-5 record. Her junior season, the team improved to 11-3-1. Macleay not only led Anne Arundel County in assists, but also set a single-season record with 45 in 15 games. Her 20 goals that season also helped her rank in the top six in the county in overall points. She received second-team All-County honors from The Capital and was named a Maryland Girls LAX Player of the Week. In her final season, she led the team in points, scoring 29 goals and contributing 49 assists. She topped her county record for most assists with 49 in 14 games. She also set an Annapolis high school record for the most assists in a single game, contributing seven against Southern High School. In her final prep game, she had one goal and five assists as the Panthers fell in the second round of playoffs to the eventual Maryland state champions. Macleay spent four years with the Maryland United Lacrosse Club. She was also a point guard on the Annapolis basketball team, tallying a 16-4 record in the 2011-12 season.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Macleay's intended major is biochemistry.
PERSONAL: Katherine Macleay was born on January 24, 1994. Her mother is Judith O'Brien. Macleay's sister, Maggie, played Division III lacrosse at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She has worked as a lifeguard, and hopes to go to medical school after graduation. Macleay was an honor student in the International Baccalaureate Program. She is a fan of the Washington Redskins and the Harry Potter books and movies. She likes listening to Taylor Swift and Rihanna. Macleay chose CU to be near the mountains and to make history.
