Dinwiddie Named To Cousy Award Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that sophomore guard Spencer Dinwiddie has been named to the watch list for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award.
Dinwiddie is one of 85 candidates and one of seven Pac-12 Conference players on the list for the annual honor, which recognizes the top point guards in the country. The award is named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy.
Arizona's Mark Lyons, Arizona State's Jahii Carson, California's Justin Cobbs, Oregon State's Ahmad Starks, Stanford's Chasson Randle and Washington's Abdul Gaddy join Dinwiddie as the Pac-12 student-athletes on the list.
The Woodland Hills, Calif., native has started every game (46) since stepping on campus in 2011 and leads the Buffs in scoring this season by averaging 14.7 points per game. He is also tops on the team in field goal percentage at 47.3 percent.
His best game so far this season might have come in a 70-61 home win over Colorado State on Dec. 5 as he scored a career-high 29 points and tied personal bests with eight field goals made and five 3-pointers made.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Taft High School product also leads Colorado in 20-point games this season with three. He scored 24 points in the games against Texas Southern (Nov. 27) and Wyoming (Dec. 1).
The watch list candidates will be narrowed to the final 20 around Jan. 1, the final 10 around Feb. 1 and the final five by approximately March 1. A premier Selection Committee has been appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the nation's top collegiate point guard award. The Hall of Fame committees are made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, Sports Information Directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2013 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Championship Monday in Atlanta as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
