BOULDER GÇô DenverGÇÖs Damon Parker has been selected as this weekGÇÖs winner of the Sports Authority Homegown Heroes program, a partnership between the University of Colorado and Sports Authority to recognize heroes in the local sports community.

Parker is a highly plausible and respected coach for the Gunnison City League. He has a real passion for passing on his soccer knowledge to his summer and fall soccer teams.

Parker has the ability to not only teach soccer to youth, but to do so at a level that enables his team to learn even bigger life lessons. Parker is a memorable coach who persists on one main goal: individual growth. What makes this aspect so special is the fact that Parker takes time out of his busy schedule to make sure these kids succeed. As a matter of fact, ParkerGÇÖs fianc+¬ changed their wedding date to two months further down the road in order for Parker to pursue his passion in helping and working with the kids.

Parker is nominated by his future father-in-law because GÇ£Damon has a real passion for children and seeing them grow as individuals,GÇ¥ Kenneth Webb says.

Sports Authority and the University of Colorado athletic department are honored to recognize Parker as a Sports Authority Hometown Hero.  As the winner, he will receive a $100 gift card to Sports Authority, a t-shirt and a certification of merit. Due to NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruiting, any high school aged person (ninth grade and above, or seventh grade and above for boys basketball) and any coach of a high school aged student-athlete are not eligible for this program.
