University of Colorado Pro Football Timing Day 2012
BOULDER - Sixteen former CU players participated in the University of Colorado's Pro Football Timing Day in an effort to display their skills in front of scouts from 15 NFL teams. The athletes participated in various drills in preparation for the NFL Draft, which will be held April 26-28 in New York City.
Players in attendance were offensive linemen Ryan Miller, Ethan Adkins and Sione Tau, linebackers Josh Hartigan, Tyler Ahles, and David Goldberg, defensive backs Jonathan Hawkins, Arthur Jaffee, Anthony Perkins and Travis Sandersfeld, defensive tackle Conrad Obi, fullback Evan Harrington, tailback Rodney Stewart, tight end Ryan Deehan, wide receiver Toney Clemons and quarterback Tyler Hansen. Also in attendance was UCLA wide receiver Taylor Embree, son of Colorado head coach Jon Embree.
With events beginning shortly after 9 a.m. at the Dal Ward Athletic Center, players were measured for height, weight, arm length, hand size and wing span. The sixteen athletes then participated in a drill to measure their vertical jump. Perkins excelled at the drill, putting up the highest number of 38.5 inches.
Players were then asked to showcase their strength in the bench press. Harrington had the most reps of the standard 225 lbs., completing 29 reps.
The athletes then moved to the team's practice bubble to participate in drills including the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle and the 3-cone drill.
The day's top 40 time went to Clemons, who ran a 4.36 laser-timed dash. Stewart put up the top time in the 20-yard shuttle recording a time of 4.01, as well as putting up the top time in the 60-yard shuttle with a time of 11.17. Stewart also put up the best time in the 3-cone drill (6.81). Players then moved to the broad jump, where Clemons recorded the day's best number, jumping 10 feet 8 inches.
To complete the day's events, players took part in position specific drills. Hansen threw for scouts, completing multiple passes to Deehan, Clemons, Stewart, Harrington, Ahles and Embree.
In attendance for today's event were scouts from the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans. One CFL team was also in attendance, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The first round of the NFL Draft will take place on Thursday, April 26. The second and third rounds will take place on April 27, with rounds four through seven taking place on April 28. Coverage of the 77th NFL Draft will be provided by ESPN.
