Herzl, Stuller Named To NSCAA All-Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Kan. GÇô University of Colorado soccer seniors
Lizzy
Herzl and Anne
Stuller have been named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches
Association of America/Continental Tire All-Pacific Region Second
Teams.
The Pac-12 Conference dominated the Pacific Region, with 23 Pac-12
players finding spots on the First, Second and Third Teams,
including all but one of the First Team honors.
This is the third post-season athletic honor for the duo. Stuller
was named second-team All-Pac-12, while Herzl was an honorable
mention. Both were also honored as College Sports Madness
All-Pac-12 Conference Second Team selections for the second
consecutive year. Stuller and Herzl also excelled in the classroom
as Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selections.
Stuller, a forward from Boulder, capped her impressive four-year
career with a record-breaking final season. Stuller was an
important part of the BuffaloesGÇÖ run to the 2013 NCAA Sweet 16,
netting the game-winning goal against No. 14 Denver in the first
round of play, and contributing an assist in the Round of 32
against No. 19 BYU. As a senior, Stuller set single season records
at CU with 93 shots and 53 shots on goal. With 36 shots on goal
last season, Stuller is the only Buff to rank in the top six of
that category twice. In 2013, Stuller racked up just three fewer
points than she did her first three seasons combined. Her eight
assists ties the CU single season record, while her 26 points rank
second and her nine goals tie for fifth. She also holds the
all-time records for points, assists and shots by a senior at CU,
and ties for first in goals by a senior. Stuller concluded the
regular season ranking in the Pac-12GÇÖs top seven in shots, points,
assists and goals.
Herzl, a defender from Littleton, Colo., also capped her career
with an impressive senior season. Herzl started all 23 games and
played a team-high 2,115 minutes (which also ranks ninth-best
all-time in a single season at CU). As part of the BuffsGÇÖ strong
defense, she helped the team to its second consecutive season with
at least eight shutouts, including a record-breaking five to start
the season. Showing a sign of things to come, early in the season,
Herzl earned a spot on the Omni Hotels Colorado WomenGÇÖs Soccer
Classic All-Tournament Team after helping the Buffs to a 4-0 win
over Stony Brook and a 3-1 victory over UNLV.
In total, 11 Buffs have been named to NSCAA All-Region teams GÇô
eight during CUGÇÖs time in the Big 12 Conference and the Central
Region. Amy
Barczuk, currently a defender for the Western New York Flash in
the National WomenGÇÖs Soccer League, was the first Buff to be
recognized after their move to the Pac-12, earning a spot on the
Third Team last season. Additionally, Fran Munnelly earned NSCAA
All-America status in 2004 (Second Team) and 2005 (Third Team) and
Bill
Hempen was named the NSCAA Coach of the Year in 2003.
