Tennis Hosts Wyoming Friday Morning

BOULDER GÇô Instead of going to class Friday morning, the
University of Colorado womenGÇÖs tennis team will instead be getting
ready for a non-conference match against Wyoming at 10:30 a.m. at
the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center. The match is the earliest start
time for both teams this season.
Colorado enters the match with 3-3 record and is coming off a
two-match skid last weekend against Kansas and Kansas State,
respectively. The Buffaloes are 3-1 at home this season and will
take on a Cowgirls team thatGÇÖs 2-1.
The Buffaloes hold the all-time record in the series, 3-1, however
the Cowgirls, who have won 10 matches in each of the last two
seasons, took last yearGÇÖs match 4-3 in Laramie. Previous meetings
between CU/Wyoming occurred in 1997, 1998, 1999.
CU boasts two top guns at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions in
sophomore Alex Aiello (16-3) and junior Julyette Steur (10-5),
while freshman Nuria Orme+¦o Ruiz, who is unbeaten at No. 3 this
season (3-0) boasts a 13-6 record for the year.
In doubles, Steur and junior Ashley Tiefel have a 9-3 mark with
Orme+¦o Ruiz and senior Winde Janssens having a 9-4 clip. Aiello and
senior Carla Manzi Tenorio have won six of 10 matches.
On the national scene, the Cowgirls currently have five ranked
opponents on their schedule, while the Buffs currently have 10
upcoming nationally ranked opponents from the latest
Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released on
Tuesday.
Looking at the history books, Manzi Tenorio ranks No. 20 overall in
combined singles (47) and doubles (56) victories with 103. Janssens
is No. 26 overall with 46 singles and 48 doubles tallies (94
overall).
In career doubles victories, Manzi Tenorio has reached the Top-10
with 56. The all-time record is shared by Melisa Esposito and
Monica Milewski with 77 wins. Janssens is tied for No. 23
overall with 48, while Steur has 30 doubles victories to her
credit.
For Wyoming, senior Veronica Popovici became the all-time school
leader in singles wins with 76. She is second all-time in doubles
wins with 79.
