Sunday Tennis Match Between CU/Cal Moved Indoors

BOULDER GÇô Due to the
inclement weather in Boulder, SundayGÇÖs womenGÇÖs tennis match between
No. 64 Colorado and No. 16 California will be moved indoors to the
Rocky Mountain Tennis Center (Millennium Hotel Harvest House)
beginning at 10 a.m.
Parking and admission are
free.
CU is
7-8 overall and 0-4 in the Pac-12 Conference, enters the week with
three of its players having 16 or more victories on the season.
Sophomore Alex Aiello tops the Buffaloes with 19, followed by
freshman Nuria Orme+¦o Ruiz (18), and junior Julyette Steur
(16).
Steur
and junior Ashley Tiefel lead the Buffs in doubles victories with
14 this season, including 10 this spring.
Ten of
the 11 womenGÇÖs tennis teams in the conference are nationally
ranked. UCLA is No. 2, while defending champion Stanford is No. 4,
USC is No. 12, followed by Cal at No. 16.
Arizona State (No.
25) and Utah (No. 27) are next, followed by Washington (No. 42),
Arizona (No. 45), Washington State (No. 50), and Colorado (No.
64).
Cal
(8-4, 1-0) enters SundayGÇÖs match holding a 2-0 edge in the all-time
series, with both wins coming in Pac-12 play in as many years. The
Bears have a quintet of nationally ranked singles players among the
top-125 with Zsofi Susanyi and Denise Starr ranked as the No. 13
and No. 26 players, respectively. Anett Schutting is No. 30,
followed by Lynn Chi at No. 43, and Maegan Manasse at No.
108.
In
doubles, the Golden Bears have a trio ranked among the top-75 with
Schutting/Manasse (No. 50), Starr/Kelly Chui (No. 63), and
Schutting/Lynn Chi (No. 80).
The CU/Stanford
match is still scheduled to be played Monday at 11 a.m. at the
South Campus Tennis Courts.
Stanford is
unbeaten this season at 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and
have won all five meetings against the Buffaloes with a pair coming
in Pac-12 play.
The
Cardinal, just like Cal, is well-represented among the
nationGÇÖs elite singles players with a quintet of players among the
nationGÇÖs top players. Kristie Ahn (No. 2), Taylor Davidson (No.
27), Carol Zhao (No. 29), Krista Hardebeck (No. 39), and Ellen Tsay
(No. 40). Stanford also has Ahn/Zhao at No. 17 and Tsay/Davidson at
No. 27 among the top doubles teams.
