Marshall Called Up To USWNT

PORTLAND GÇô Former University of Colorado womenGÇÖs soccer standout Nikki Marshall has been called-up to the United States WomenGÇÖs National Team for the first time in her career, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday.

Marshall, her Portland Thorns FC teammate Allie Long, and the U.S. WomenGÇÖs National Team will meet the Canada WomenGÇÖs National Team for an international friendly in Winnipeg on May 8.

Marshall, a native of Mead, Colo., and a 2010 graduate of Colorado, has previously represented the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels. Those stints included Woman of the Match honors as she helped the U.S. U-20 WomenGÇÖs National Team win the 2008 FIFA U-20 WomenGÇÖs World Cup with a 2-1 victory over North Korea in Chile.

Marshall has played defender for her entire professional career after playing forward at CU from 2006-09. She finished career as the programGÇÖs all-time leading scorer with 42 goals and set a single-season record with 17 goals as a freshman in 2006. She also posted program records in career points (93) and game-winning goals (18), as well as numerous single-season and single-game records, including the fastest goal in BuffaloesGÇÖ history 23 seconds into a match against Saint MaryGÇÖs College in 2009. In all, Marshall amassed 17 program records in four seasons and is CUGÇÖs most decorated player.

She has started 25 consecutive matches for her professional side, the Portland Thorns, since 2013, appearing in every match across all competitions. This season, Marshall has played 90 minutes in each of the first three games while helping lead a defense that includes two rookies. She registered one assist in 2013 while helping Thorns FC win the inaugural National WomenGÇÖs Soccer League Championship.

Two other Buffs are currently playing in the NWSL: Amy Barczuk with the Western New York Flash and Michelle Wenino with the Chicago Red Stars.
