BOULDERGÇöWhat was ShalayaGÇÖs Kipp day has now become her week as accolades continue to rain down on the senior track star.

On Sunday, Kipp ran the second-fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase in the world this year (third-fastest in school history) at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California. Thursday, Kipp was honored again as she was named to the watch list for the prestigious Bowerman award, handed out annually by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) to the nationGÇÖs top male and female track & field athletes.

Kipp, who has been named an All-American in track or cross country seven times, has enjoyed a solid senior season. On top of near record-setting finish on Sunday, she also won the 1,500 meter race at the CU Invitational in April and was awarded the Tom Hansen Medal, a Pac-12 honor bestowed upon a male and a female senior student-athlete from each conference school. The award is given to the individual who personifies the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

Kipp is one of four female Pac-12 performers on the Bowerman list. Aisling Cuffe of Stanford and Phyllis Francis and Laura Roesler of Oregon have also been named to the list giving the Pac-12 the most nominees of any conference.

Kipp also joins fellow track athletes Emma Coburn, who was named last year, and Jenny Barringer, who won the award in 2009, as the only three CU student-athletes to be placed on the awardGÇÖs watch list.

The finalists will be named at the conclusion of the outdoor track season this summer.
