Colorado-UCLA Notes
Dec 2 (Tue)
7:00 PM
Colorado is 0-4 in Pac-12 play for the first time and is off to its slowest conference start since dropping the first four games of the 2009 Big 12 schedule. The Buffaloes have lost five straight and seven of their last eight. Colorado's five-game skid is its most since a similar streak in February 2012.
Colorado shot a season-best 57.9 percent from the field (33-of-57), its highest mark since shooting 59.3 percent (39-of-59) against Grambling State on Dec. 30, 2009.
Colorado had a season-high 25 assists. With both teams shooting over 50 percent, Colorado had a season low 30 rebounds but still won the rebounding edge over the Bruins (30-29). Colorado has won the rebounding battle or been even in 13 of 15 games.
UCLA evens the series with Colorado at 5-5, snapping a 3-game Colorado win streak.
Colorado returned to the starting lineup of Lexy Kresl, Jasmine Sborov, Haley Smith, Jen Reese and Jamee Swan for the first time in six games. This lineup started the first nine games, winning six of those outings.
UCLA led by as much as 21 in the first half (37-16, 8:08). The Buffaloes erased that deficit with a 41-20 run over the next 12:42 (57-57, 15:26). Colorado gained its first lead at 60-59 with 14:29 remaining, but never led by more than that margin.
UCLA's 50 first half points are the most given up by Colorado this season in any half. The Bruins were coming off a game where they scored only 49 in the win over Utah (49-46). In last year's meeting with UCLA in Boulder, the Bruins scored just 42 as CU won 62-42. It was the most points given up by CU in the first half at home since giving up 55 to Stanford on Jan. 12, 2014.
Jen Reese scored a career-high 30 points, becoming the 26th player in team history to reach 1,000 for her career. She is the 15th player to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She had career highs in field goals (14), points and assists (5) while matching a personal best 19 field goal attempts.
Her 14 field goals tie for the third most in a single game in team history, done 10 other times, most recently by Brittany Spears against California in the 2011 WNIT. Her 30 points are the most by a CU player since Chucky Jeffery scored 30 against Idaho on Dec. 4, 2011.
Lexy Kresl was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, she had been 0 for her last 7 the previous three games.
Haley Smith scored a Pac-12 best 19 points, hitting 7-of-10 from the field. She had 17 points combined in her previous three conference games, making 8-of-26 in that span (.308).
