Tennis Begins Spring Season Saturday
BOULDER - The University of Colorado womenGÇÖs
tennis team begins its 2015 spring season this weekend at the
University of Northern Colorado on Saturday, January 24 at 1
p.m. The match will be held at the Work Out West Health and
Recreation campus at West 20th Street in Greeley.
The Buffaloes return seven student-athletes that saw significant
playing time last fall, including senior Julyette Steur and
freshman Kyra Wojcik, who teamed up to win the ITA Mountain
Regional last October. The pair was the first CU doubles team to
represent the Buffaloes at the USTA/ITA National Indoors
Intercollegiate Championships in New York City.
CUGÇÖs most successful doubles team was Steur and Wojcik during the
fall, winning five of seven matches. Senior Ashley Tiefel and
freshman Tina Bokhua won four out of six.
In singles, Steur and junior Alex Aiello each won six matches. Both
women are coming off an impressive fall singles campaign, advancing
to the ITA Mountain Region Round of 16. Bokhua and sophomore Nuria
Orme+¦o Ruiz each won four singles matches.
Head coach Nicole Kenneally enters her 16th spring
season and ranks second all-time on the all-time CU womenGÇÖs
coaching victories list with 151.
The womenGÇÖs team begins the January and February portion of the
schedule with five of six matches on the road or at neutral
sites.
The home opener is Saturday, Jan. 31 against former Big 12
Conference rival and No. 64 ranked Kansas State at the Millennium
Hotel Harvest House bubble beginning at 4 p.m. Other home matches
during February include New Mexico (Feb. 15, 11 a.m.), Nevada (Feb.
21, 11 a.m.) and Kansas (Feb. 22, Noon).
The Pac-12 Conference home opener is against No. 34 Arizona on
March 13 at 1:30 p.m.
Overall, CU will play 13 ranked opponents, including nine of 10
conference teams currently ranked among the latest ITA Top 75
poll.
