Homecoming, Ski Ball Highlight Busy Week Ahead For The Buffs
BOULDER GÇô One of CUGÇÖs greatest traditions, that of Homecoming/Back To Boulder, is on tap this week highlighting a busy week ahead for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Starting on Thursday and running through the football game on Saturday, Homecoming events are always a highlight of the academic year for the CU Boulder campus. ThursdayGÇÖs events start with the Alumni Awards Ceremony and Reception, and two ties to the athletic department are being honored. The women's basketball team will also host its annual Fantasy Camp at the Coors Events Center, for more information call 303-492-5497.
CUGÇÖs Associate Athletic Director for Sports Information David Plati is one of three being honored with the 2015 Robert L. Stearns award and former ski team member, head coach and athletic director Bill Marolt is one of three being honored with the 2015 George Norlin award.
Friday has a busy slate of events all over campus, check out CU's Homecoming page for all the details. Related to athletics are an Athletics Facility Tour from 12-12:40 p.m. (sorry, itGÇÖs already sold out), and the Pearl Street Stampede will be expanded with Buffs Bash. Starting at the Lazy Dog from 5-7 p.m., then the Homecoming Parade will take place at 7 p.m. followed by the Pep Rally at 7:45 p.m. at the Courthouse Lawn. After that pep rally, make your way to the Coors Events Center for a stellar Pac-12 volleyball match-up with California, set for 8 p.m.
Friday night will also be the 45th Annual Ski Ball, a black-tie fundraising event for the 20-time National Champion CU Ski Team. On tap for the night is honoring the 2015 NCAA Championship team as well as all eight NCAA Championship squads from the 1970s. CU won eight straight titles from 1972-79 and all eight will be inducted into the Mountain of Honor. Those same nine teams will be honored during the football game Friday night. The event is sold out.
Saturday prior to the 7 p.m. football game with Arizona, RalphieGÇÖs Corral will be the place to be starting at 4 p.m. Located on Benson Field, RalphieGÇÖs Corral is complete with Ralphie herself and perfect for Buffs of all ages. There will also be a Young Alumni Tailgate located within RalphieGÇÖs Corral.
Varsity sports actually get underway much earlier in the week, starting on Monday with the menGÇÖs golf team in action at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. The womenGÇÖs tennis team is in action at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships from Wednesday through Sunday.
The CU Cross Country team is at the Pre-NationalGÇÖs meet in Louisville, Ky., a first look for many of the nationGÇÖs top teams on the same course the NCAA Championships will be held about a month later. For the top-ranked menGÇÖs and No. 2 ranked womenGÇÖs teams, this is the start to the meat of the season that after this includes the Pac-12 Championships (Oct. 30), the NCAA Regionals (Nov. 13) and NCAA Championships (Nov. 21).
Along with football being home, the volleyball team is also home this weekend with matches against California Friday at 8 p.m. and Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Cardinal were ranked No. 7 in the country in last weekGÇÖs poll. Both matches will also be live on the Pac-12 Networks.
The CU soccer team is also in action, traveling to the Bay Area for match-ups with the same Stanford team the volleyball team squares off against. That game is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and will also be televised by the Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal womenGÇÖs soccer team was ranked No. 6 last week.
