Hagan To Serve As Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal

BOULDER GÇö After a standout career as quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes from 1989-91, Darian Hagan earned his degree at CU in 1996 GÇö but never really left. Though he has worked different places, Hagan has always returned to CU to work in various capacities.
Hagan played and coached for the Buffs, and now serves as director of player development. Throughout his life, he has stayed dedicated to his alma mater, and has been inducted into the CU Athletics and Colorado Sports halls of fame.
Now he has received a new honor: grand marshal of the 2015 CU Homecoming parade, an honor that comes 25 years after he helped lead the Buffs to the 1990 national championship.
GÇ£I couldnGÇÖt believe it because there are many people out there that are well deserving of the honor,GÇ¥ Hagan said. GÇ£For them to pick me just shows that IGÇÖve done something right in my lifetime for people to still want to have me involved in such a prestigious event.GÇ£
As grand marshal, Hagan will participate in the Pearl Street Stampede, one of many homecoming events on tap this week. He said he will GÇ£wave the presidential waveGÇ¥ and help others remember the wonderful times they had at CU.
He joins a list of other legendary CU athletes who have served as grand marshal, including running back Rashaan Salaam and Olympians Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp.
The parade begins Friday at 7 p.m., but the homecoming festivities begin earlier.
At 5 p.m., the Lazy Dog on Pearl Street will host the Buff Bash. Then comes the parade, which begins at the west end of the Pearl Street Mall and ends on the Boulder County Courthouse lawn. After the parade, a pep rally will be held in front of the courthouse.
Also on tap Friday night is a CU volleyball match, as the Buffs play host to California in an 8 p.m. contest at the Coors Events Center.
Saturday, a variety of tailgate events are scheduled before the 7 p.m. football game vs. Arizona at Folsom Field.
The Herd and CU Student Government are hosting a student tailgate on Farrand Field beginning at 4 p.m. There will be food, games, prizes, and a chance to win a free football ticket.
The inaugural fraternity tailgate is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. at the Duane Physics Field. The tailgate will be hosted by the athletic department and the Interfraternity Council. The event will include a beer garden for guests who are 21 and older and BBQ food and drink for purchase.
Zack Rosenfeld, an organizer of the tailgate said, GÇ£With this event we aim to not only provide responsible and fun tailgating, but also usher in a new era in the Greek community where we can serve as the standards for how one should support the Athletic Department and our student-athletes.GÇ¥
Tickets for the volleyball match and football game are still available at cubuffs.com/tickets.
