Schlichting Named Assistant Sports Information Director

BOULDER GÇö Andy Schlichting, who has served as the sports information director at Metro State University in Denver since 2009, has been named assistant SID at the University of Colorado, the school announced Monday.
He will join the Buffalo staff on October 19 and will coordinate all publicity and communication needs for CUGÇÖs lacrosse, soccer and tennis teams, in addition to helping out with most of CUGÇÖs 17 intercollegiate varsity programs.
GÇ£WeGÇÖre very pleased to be able to add someone with the kind of experience that Andy has,GÇ¥ said David Plati, CUGÇÖs Associate Athletic Director for Sports Information. GÇ£We had several good candidates for the position, but in the end, he rose to the top because of his reputation with the local sports media and the energy and organization heGÇÖs displayed in over six years with Metro. He ran basically a one-person operation which means extraordinary coordination, support and training of student help, something we also preach here at CU.GÇ¥
Schlichting, 31, is a two-time recipient of the J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall RMAC Sports Information Director of the Year Award, earning the honor for the 2010-11 and 2014-15 athletic years. He earned both his undergraduate (Science Physical Education, emphasis in sports management, with a minor in Business Administration) and his MasterGÇÖs (Science Education) degrees from Southwest Minnesota State University, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He was the graduate assistant at SMSU for two years while earning his advanced degree, and was immediately hired by Metro for his first full-time job.
He was also a four-year letterman and starter for Southwest Minnesota at wide receiver, as well as the teamGÇÖs punter for three seasons.
GÇ£I am extremely excited to join the Buffs,GÇ¥ Schlichting said. GÇ£I know it is a top athletics program from top to bottom and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of one of the best sports information staffs in the country. I am grateful to have been able to be a part of a great Division II program at Metro State, but have had long-term goal of working at CU for a while. I have had the privilege to work with several of CUGÇÖs coaches previously and I know the entire athletics department works together extremely well. I cannot wait to get started.GÇ¥
Schlichting replaces Andrew Green, who left the profession in September after 14 years as CUGÇÖs menGÇÖs basketball SID. Troy Andre, who has handled the womenGÇÖs basketball SID duties since 2004, his second year in the department, will now handle the same for the menGÇÖs team. Ashley Braun, a CU alum who worked as an undergraduate in the office before spending three years on the communications staff with the Fiesta Bowl, shifts from being the SID for three womenGÇÖs Olympic sports to take over the chores for women basketball, though she will remain the contact for womenGÇÖs golf. Linda Sprouse remains on volleyball, cross country and track, while Plati coordinates football, skiing and menGÇÖs golf.
