Seven Teams In Action For Busy Week Ahead For Buffs

BOULDER GÇô Senior day for 15 Colorado football players, the start of the basketball seasons, cross country regionals, volleyball home matches and the final tennis action for the fall highlight a busy week ahead for the Colorado Buffaloes.
In front of a nationally televised audience on ESPN2 Friday, both the menGÇÖs basketball season opener and the football home finale will take place as the Buffs will on the airwaves that day. The menGÇÖs basketball team opens against No. 7 Iowa State in South Dakota at 3 p.m. MT and then the football team takes on Southern California at 7 p.m. at Folsom Field.
The Buffs will open up Balch Fieldhouse at 2:45 p.m. Friday for a watch party for the menGÇÖs basketball game prior to the football game. Also with the Friday kickoff for the football team, the final Pearl Street Stampede will be moved to Thursday night at 7 p.m.
The womenGÇÖs basketball team also gets its season underway Saturday at 2 p.m. Titled GÇ£Game One Fun,GÇ¥ all tickets and select concessions for that basketball game will be just $1. CU will be offering $1 hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and sodas. All indications from the Buffs 40 point win in exhibition action is that this will be an extremely fun team to watch.
The cross country teams are completion for more championship hardware, this time at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Albuquerque. The menGÇÖs team remains the top team in the country and the womenGÇÖs team moved up to No. 2 after both teams won the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 30. The teams will then have a quick turnaround prepping for the NCAA Championships, which are slated for Nov. 21 in Louisville, Ky.
The CU volleyball team will also be in action at home this weekend, first taking on Arizona State Thursday at 7 p.m. and then Arizona on Saturday at 7 p.m. in two very important matches as the Buffs look to get on a roll at the end of the season. The Buffs have eight matches left, and after this weekend just one more home weekend for the regular season.
The volleyball team will be honoring its alumini at the matches this week and the Arizona match on Saturday is a Chips Kids Club Night and CU Faculty & Staff Night where the Buffs will honor the faculty and staff that helped shape them into the student-athletes they are today.
The tennis team also wraps up its fall season this week on both coasts. Junior Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, fresh of winning the ITA Mountain Regional singles championship, was given an automatic bid into the ITA National Indoor Championships in New York City, one of the first Buffs ever selected to that tournament. The rest of the team will be on the west coast at the San Diego State Invitational.
