Sprinters Compete at Joe Davies
GOLDEN, Colo. GÇö Freshman Ana Holland won the 60-meter dash on Saturday at the Joe Davies Open to lead the small group of University of Colorado sprinters who braved the weather conditions to get a race in before the indoor conference meet next weekend.
Holland won the 60 in 7.55 seconds after winning the preliminary round in 7.62. She had some good distance between her and the field in the finals with Northern ColoradoGÇÖs Alivia Ayres-Perry placing second in 7.77.
Sophomore Jaron Thomas was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.15. He clocked in at 8.19 in the prelims, which was also second. Chris Cutcher (Chadron State) won the finals in 8.01.
Sophomores Austin Mitsch and Erik Gaytan both raced in the 60. Mitsch finished second overall (6.93) after placing second in the prelims (6.97), while Gaytan placed third in the finals (6.96) after clocking in at 7.07 in the prelims. Dominique Hubert (unattached) was first in 6.66.
GÇ£The meet served its purpose,GÇ¥ assistant coach Drew Morano said. GÇ£We shook off the rust for Erik and Austin who hadnGÇÖt raced in a couple of weeks and for Ana and Jaron we worked on more technical things. With Jaron, we were trying something different with the hurdles and I think we came out pretty well. I was also happy with the way Ana executed her races.
GÇ£Overall I was happy with the weekend and that we were able to get down there with the weather. IGÇÖm happy where we are heading for the MPSF meet next weekend.GÇ¥
The entire team will be in action next weekend at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Seattle.
