Tennis Will Play Outside This Weekend vs. UA & ASU

BOULDER GÇô The University of Colorado womenGÇÖs
tennis team looks to rebound this Friday and Sunday when it hosts
the Grand Canyon schools this weekend.
Both matches will be played at the South Campus Courts. On Friday,
CU/Arizona at 1:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m. with CU/Arizona
State.
The nationally ranked Buffaloes remain No. 47, despite falling last
week to No. 7 California and No. 10 Stanford by 7-0 and 6-1 scores,
respectively. CU looks to defend the home court taking on No. 50
Arizona this Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 24 Arizona State on Sunday
at 10 a.m.
Of the nationally ranked schools released by the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) this past Tuesday, the Buffaloes are one
nine teams ranked among the Top 75. UCLA (No. 2), Southern
California (No. 4), California (No. 9), Stanford (No. 12), Arizona
State (No. 24), Washington (No. 49), Arizona (No. 50), and Oregon
(No. 67), join the No. 47 ranked Buffaloes.
CU is on a two-match skid after opening the Pac-12 Conference
season last weekend in the Bay Area. The Buffaloes (9-2, 0-2
Pac-12) have also lost four of its last five. CU began the spring
season in grand fashion with an 8-1 record, their best start to the
dual season since 1997.
Although the Buffs donGÇÖt possess any nationally ranked singles or
doubles players, the roster is led by junior Alexandra Aiello and
sophomore Nuri Orme+¦o Ruiz each with nine dual wins this
season. Senior Julyette Steur has eight victories. Aiello
leads the team overall in singles victories with 15, followed by
Steur and Orme+¦o Ruiz with 14 and 13, respectively.
Arizona (9-1, 0-0) has a lone representative among the ITAGÇÖs Top
125 players in Briar Preston at No. 97 nationally. The Sun Devils
(8-2, 0-0) also have a singles player ranked in Desirae Krawczyk
(No. 44), and a pair of doubles tandems among the nationGÇÖs Top 75
teams in Krawczyk/Stephanie Vlad at No. 26 and Joanna
Smith/Kassidy Jump at No.
75.
In the head-to-head series, Arizona leads CU, 13-6, however the
Wildcats hold a 2-1 edge in the Pac-12. Against the Sun Devils, CU
trails 16-2 all-time with ASU winning all three in Pac-12
play.
Colorado begins a five-match homestand starting Friday. After the
Arizona schools, the Buffs will welcome Washington (March 20),
Oregon (March 22) and Washington State (29).
