AUSTIN, Texas GÇô University of Colorado junior Abrianna Torres is currently 10th after the first day of the heptathlon on Wednesday at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a score of 3,216 points.

GÇ£AB (Abrianna) set her new personal best first day score today,GÇ¥ assistant coach Lindsey Malone said. GÇ£She is over 100 points above her PR at a very early season multi meet. Her 100-hurdles time is close to her all-time best and her 200 time is her college best.GÇ¥

Torres started the day by clocking in at 14.56 in the 100-meter hurdles, which was the 12th best time in the field. She then tied for 13th in the high jump, clearing 5-3. One of her top events, indoors and outdoors, has been the shot put, and she didnGÇÖt disappoint with a throw of 44-00.50 for second overall. The throw is the CU heptathlon record, which broke her previous mark of 42-7 from 2013. She finished the day running a PR of 25.69 in the 200 for 12th place.

GÇ£This group of competitors is one of the most elite sections of female heptathletes that will compete this year outside of the NCAA championships,GÇ¥ Malone said. GÇ£Abrianna is among the top 10 which I believe is an outstanding indication of her preparation for this outdoor season. Our training emphasizes earning technical gains in competition and Abrianna had several breakthroughs today. Her speed work is coming along nicely and she has been dedicated with what I have her working on in the weight room. I think she and I are both enjoying seeing her marks reflect her overall growth in one of the most challenging events in track and field.GÇ¥

The final three events of the heptathlon will be contested on Thursday, which are the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run, and Torres is poised and excited to do well.

GÇ£There were some ups and downs today, but overall I feel pretty good about where I am heading into tomorrowGÇÖs events,GÇ¥ Torres said. GÇ£IGÇÖm most looking forward to long jump tomorrow. ItGÇÖs one of my strongest events and I can get some good points on the point with it. IGÇÖm also excited about the 800. I know there is room for improvement, but this warm weather is great and I love competing in it.GÇ¥
