Colorado head women's basketball coach Linda Lappe will serve as the March for Babies Ambassador for the March of Dimes.

Lappe knows how important the March of Dimes mission is. As someone who has seen first-hand the effects of premature birth, she has taken on the role of March for Babies Ambassador for the second year in a row to raise awareness and important funding to provide for babies who are born premature or with birth defects.

GÇ£I want to be involved with March of Dimes to help bring more awareness of how important it is to get babies off to a great start in life.?A baby being born is one of lifeGÇÖs most fascinating, exciting and nerve wracking events,GÇ¥ Lappe said. GÇ£Each family deserves to have the process go as smoothly as possible and I am honored to help in whichever way is most beneficial.GÇ¥

March for Babies, the March of Dimes largest fundraiser, helps fund lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at helping moms have healthy babies. Last year in Boulder County more than $117,000 was raised. One out of every 10 babies in Colorado will be born premature this year.

Boulder County residents can sign up today at?www.marchforbabies.org?and start a team with co-workers, family or friends. This year the walk will be held on Saturday, April 25, on the Duane Physics Lawn on the CU campus. You can also join or donate to coach Lappe's team at:

GÇ£WeGÇÖre so excited to have Coach Lappe on board to help us. Her passion for the cause and commitment to helping our babies will be a huge driving factor in the success of our event.
