MBB Seeded No. 10, Will Play No. 7 Seed Oregon State

SAN FRANCISCO GÇö The University of Colorado menGÇÖs basketball team will be the No. 10 seed and play No. 7 seed Oregon State this Wednesday, March 11 at 7:10 p.m. (MDT) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Buffaloes closed the regular season portion of the schedule with a 14-16 record and a 7-11 mark in the Pac-12 standings.

In their lone meeting of the season against the Beavers, occurred in Corvallis back on Feb. 21 with Oregon State taking a 72-58 victory.

The winner of CU/OSU will play No. 2 seed Oregon on Thursday, 7:10 p.m. (MDT). Both games will be televised by the Pac-12 Network and can be heard on 850-KOA with Voice of The Buffs, Mark Johnson with analyst Scott Wilke.

Under the tutelage of CU head coach Tad Boyle, the Buffaloes are 5-3 over the five years against Oregon State, and in the overall all-time series, CU leads 10-5.  In the lone neutral court meeting coming two years ago at the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas, CU, seeded No. 5 took a 74-68 win on March 13, 2013 over the No. 12 seeded Beavers.

In the previous three years of the Pac-12 Tournament, Boyle ranks at the top in overall record (7-2) and winning percentage (.778) in the Pac-10/12 Tournament history.  BoyleGÇÖs overall 65.0 winning percentage also ranks number one in school history, in addition to his post-season wins (13).  His 9-3 conference tournament record spanning the previous four seasons (three in Pac-12, one in the Big 12), is number one in school history. 

In this yearGÇÖs Pac-12 Tournament, eight of the 12 seeds for the 2015 Pac-12 MenGÇÖs Basketball Tournament were determined on the final day of the Pac-12 regular season. The Pac-12 regular season champion, Arizona enters the event as the No. 1 seed for the second straight year.

The Pac-12 MenGÇÖs Basketball Tournament takes place Wednesday-Saturday, March 11-14, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. A limited number of tickets are only available for WednesdayGÇÖs sessions 1 and 2, and can be purchased online at pac-12.com/tickets.  Tickets for the remaining sessions are sold out.

Washington knocked off Utah on Saturday, dropping the Utes into a tie with Oregon for second place in the league standings. The Ducks own the tiebreaker based on its victory over the Utes in the only head-to-head matchup between the two teams this season and garner the No. 2 seed. The Utes hold the No. 3 seed, while No. 4 UCLA rounds out the top four seeds.

Arizona State and Stanford tied for fifth. The Sun Devils, who started Pac-12 play 0-4, grabbed the No. 5 seed based on the Pac-12GÇÖs tie-break procedures. The Sun Devils and Cardinal split their series this year. The two teams then compare their record against the teams at the top of the standings and work down through the standings until the tie is broken.

In comparing their records against Arizona, Arizona State went 1-1 vs. the Wildcats, while Stanford went 0-2 vs. Wildcats. After the Sun Devils were slotted at No. 5, the Cardinal enter the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Oregon State is the No. 7 seed.

In a three-way tie for eighth place between California, CU, and Washington State, where the Golden Bears come out on top with the No. 8 seed. In the multi-team tie-breaking procedure, Cal owned the better collective head-to-head record (2-1) with Colorado (1-2) and Washington State (2-2).

The head-to-head tie-break procedure was then used on Colorado and Washington State to determine the No. 9 seed. The teams split their season series. Their records were then compared vs. the teams at the top of the standings. Neither team defeated Arizona. Their records vs. the tied group of Utah and Oregon revealed the edge to the Cougars for the No. 9 seed as it went 1-3, compared to the Buffaloes 0-3 mark. Colorado fills the bracket at No. 10.

Washington and USC round out the Pac-12 Tournament bracket with the No. 11 and No. 12 seeds respectively.

The Pac-12 Networks will air eight games of the Tournament, including the first seven games, starting with first round action on Wednesday, March 11. Game times are 1:10 p.m., 3:40 p.m., 7:10 p.m., and 9:40 p.m.

The Pac-12 Networks will carry the first three quarterfinal games on Thursday, March 12 at 1:10 p.m., 3:40 p.m., and 7:10 p.m.

ESPN will air the last quarterfinal that evening at 9:40 p.m.  All times listed are Mountain.

Semifinal action on Friday, March 13 tips off at 7:10 p.m. (P12N) and 9:45 p.m. (ESPN). The Pac-12 Championship will air on ESPN on Saturday, March 14 at 9:05 p.m.
