Soenksen Earns Second Straight MPSF Honor

BOULDER GÇô For a second consecutive week and third time this season, University of Colorado lacrosse goalkeeper Paige Soenksen has earned the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week award.

Soenksen continues to excel between the posts for the Buffaloes in 2015. She played a significant role in last weekGÇÖs games on the west coast, helping CU earn their first MPSF road win of the year. The sophomore from Encinitas, Calif. recorded a combined 27 saves at USC and San Diego State.

Against the Trojans on April 10, she made 11 saves and held USC to 50 percent shooting from the 8-meter mark as the Women of Troy only tallied three goals on six attempts. A late surge by the Trojans gave them the 12-9 win over CU. Soenksen then helped the Buffs win their third straight meeting against San Diego State, 7-6 to conclude the weekend on April 12. She faced 22 shots on frame and recorded 16 saves. Soenksen only allowed six goals to an Aztec offense that entered the contest averaging 13 goals per game. The second-year goalkeeper came up big down the stretch, making two pivotal saves in the final minute to help hold off a late SDSU rally.

Soenksen boasts an impressive .509 save percentage through 12 games this season, which is currently tops in the league. She has now earned five MPSF honors dating back to her freshman campaign.

The Buffs finish a four-game road trip this weekend, traveling back to California to face St. MaryGÇÖs on Friday, April 17 and the Cal Bears on Sunday, April 19, which will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
