Tennis Closes Home Season Saturday With Senior Day

BOULDER - University of Colorado womenGÇÖs tennis student-athletes Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel will play their final home match on Senior Day this Saturday, April 18 against the No. 49 nationally ranked Utah Utes.

The match will be played at the
Rocky Mountain Tennis Center, Millennium Hotel Harvest House bubble.  The match will begin with doubles at 11:00 a.m.

Campus KidsGÇÖ Day is canceled.

The Buffaloes are not ranked in the ITA team rankings for the first time in seven weeks and enter SaturdayGÇÖs match with an 11-10 record and a 1-8 mark in the Pac-12 Conference.  Utah is 9-13 overall and 3-6 in the conference, enter the weekend as the No. 49th ranked team.  The Utes have a spring schedule comprised of 18 nationally ranked opponents in their 23-match schedule.

Of CUGÇÖs 22-match schedule, 15 opponents were ranked.

CU and Utah each have lost two-straight matches, both falling to then-No. 1 USC and No. 4 UCLA by identical, 7-0 scores.  The Utes have lost three of four, while the Buffs are 2-2.

Utah has won four straight against CU and leads the all-time series holding a 15-10 advantage.  Senior Tereza Bekerova leads the Utes with a 13-7 dual match record and is the lone singles player nationally ranked at No. 67.  Bekerova and freshman Margo Pletcher are No. 38 nationally in doubles.

Both CU seniors, Steur and Tiefel are among the all-time winners on the schoolGÇÖs career lists.  In doubles, Steur is ranked No. 24 with 50 wins, while Tiefel is No. 27 with 42.  In singles, Steur is No. 25 all-time with 59 victories. 

The Buffaloes have four players with at least 12 singles win for the year, the most since 2009-10 when six players accomplished the feat. Entering SaturdayGÇÖs match, sophomore Nuria Orme+¦o Ruiz leads with 17 victories, followed by Steur and junior Alex Aiello with 16 each, and freshman Tina Bokhua has 12.

In dual play (spring season), three CU players have double-digit singles wins for the first time since the 2010 campaign. Orme+¦o Ruiz has 13, Aiello and Steur each with 10.

CUGÇÖs 11 team wins matches the 2010 spring season, the last time the Buffaloes reached double-digit victories.
