Soenksen Named MPSF Defensive Player of the Week

Soenksen has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
Defensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Encinitas, Calif. turned in two solid
performances last weekend (April 3-5) against the UC Davis Aggies
and the 13th-ranked Stanford Cardinal. On Friday,
Soenksen made seven saves and only allowed five UC Davis goals,
helping lead CU to its first conference win of the season as the
Buffaloes defeated the Aggies 13-5 at home and she earned her sixth
victory this year.
On Sunday, Soenksen was impressive once again when the Buffs hosted
Stanford. She played a full 60 minutes and collected 17 saves,
while holding the Cardinal to 50 percent shooting (5-10) on free
position attempts. Soenksen also held StanfordGÇÖs leading goal
scorer, Lucy Dikeou, scoreless on three shots. The Buffs fell
16-14 to Stanford in their best game in their young history against
a ranked opponent.
This is SoenksenGÇÖs second Defensive Player of the Week award this
season and fourth MPSF honor of her career.
Colorado begins a four-game road trip to California this week. The
BuffsGÇÖ first game is Friday, April 10 at USC and they conclude the
weekend visiting San Diego State on Sunday, April 12.
