Getting To Know: Joslyn Hayes, Volleyball

This week, CUBuff.com continues its 'Getting To Know' series with sophomore Joslyn Hayes, an outside hitter from Santa Monica, Calif.
Question: What have you and the team done this off-season to reflect and build off of last seasonGÇÖs efforts?
Answer: We have really committed to each other as teammates and truly become a support system for each other and committed to ourselves. Our own play is getting better, which is making it easier to do our individual jobs along with bettering our chances of succeeding on the court. I think what we have done in the off-season is getting on the same page and are now continuing to work hard to get where we want to be for next year.
Q: What can the team do to replace the efforts of the seniors that you lost?
A: We can each step up. Every single one of us has to step up our game in order to compensate for the loss of our seniors. We lost significant players, however we also learned a lot from them and can each take something away from what they have taught us in order to develop into a whole team again.
Q: How did spring drills and practices go? What was the best part?
Spring season was really good. I think that everyone has improved and will be able to carry their improvements at a competitive level of play that we are used to.
Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season?
A: IGÇÖm looking forward to being able to compete regularly with my team against someone other than ourselves.
Q: What team do you look forward to playing the most during the Pac-12 season? Why?
A: I look forward to playing USC the most because in the past we have struggled against them and I made a promise to someone I care a lot about that we would beat them while I was here. IGÇÖm excited to keep that promise.
Q: Do you have a favorite non-conference opponent? Who and why?
A: CSU is always a good match, because we have history and they are our schoolGÇÖs rivals.
Q: Many of your teammates say that you are probably the best singer on the team, what is your favorite song to sing around the locker room? Have you offered to give a team wide vocal lesson?
A: I mostly just sing along to the songs we play in the locker room and I just sing really loudly so that you can't hear all the off pitch stuff. And vocal lessons aren't necessary, when we have jam sessions everyone does their own thing and we manage to sound like a pretty solid elementary school choir, so IGÇÖd say we are golden!
