Kiernan, Soenksen Named To MPSF All-Tournament Team

DENVER GÇô Freshman Darby Kiernan and sophomore Paige Soenksen of the University of Colorado lacrosse team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Tournament Team, the league announced Sunday.
Kiernan, a midfielder from Ridgewood, N.J., led the Buffaloes offense in both games. She scored a combined seven goals, while putting nine of her 11 shots on frame and she also had two groundballs. In the quarterfinals against San Diego State, Kiernan tallied five goals for the third time this season, which resulted in her 11th hat trick of 2015. She scored the Buffs' first three goals of the game as CU defeated SDSU 15-6 to advance to the MPSF semifinals for the second consecutive season. Against No. 15 Stanford, Kiernan had three shots on goal and scored twice.
In her first season for the black and gold, Kiernan finished with a team-high 52 goals and 62 points, both program records. She also was first on the team with 37 groundballs and had four game-winning goals.
The All-Tournament selection for Soenksen is the second of her career, a goalkeeper and Encinitas, Calif. native. She made 20 saves and picked up nine groundballs over the two games. Soenksen recorded seven saves and four groundballs against SDSU and held the AztecsGÇÖ main offensive weapon, Christina Riccardulli scoreless. She had five groundballs and 13 saves in the semifinals against the Cardinal.
Soenksen completed the season with 151 saves and a .489 save percentage, which ranks 11th in the country. She was also third on the team with a career-high 34 groundballs.
The Buffs finished their 2015 campaign with a second-straight 11-win season, posting an 11-7 record and were 5-4 in MPSF play. In just two seasons as a Division I program, Colorado is 22-15 in the regular season and owns a 2-2 postseason mark.
