EUGENE, Ore. GÇô Senior Sara Sutherland raced to a third place finish in a very talented pool of 1,500-meter runners at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon to earn herself first team All-America status.
 
Sutherland recorded a personal best time of 4 minutes, 13.48 seconds for the bronze in the race, surpassing her previous best of 4:13.56 from the Pac-12 Championships. This was the third time this season that Sutherland has run 4:13. She also ran 4:13.95 at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships.
 
The Dallas, Texas native ran a very smart and tactical race, moving up steadily in a well-paced race. Sutherland was sixth overall after 700 meters and pulled ahead of three more runners in the next 200 meters to get into third.

The top two, Shelby Houlihan (Arizona State) and Rhianwedd Price (Mississippi State), along with Sutherland pulled away from the rest of the field entering the bell lap. With 250 meters left, Houlihan and Price took off, but Sutherland kept a good 10-15 meters between her and the rest of the field to secure her third place finish. Price won in 4:09.56, while Houlihan was second in 4:09.67.

The CU womenGÇÖs team tied for 35th at the championships with SutherlandGÇÖs 6.0 points.
