For the Colorado Buffaloes, the past week was one of those times.  Four varsity sports were in action between Friday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 20, and they all won.

A recap:

Friday, September 18, 2015

The volleyball team kicked off action in the 2015 Omni Invitational with a 3-1 win over Montana State at the Coors Events Center at 2 p.m.  Junior Cierra Simpson recorded her 1,000th career dig.  The spikers then came back at 7 p.m. to face Weber State, earning a sweep of the Wildcats on the strength of 16 kills from Gabby Simpson.

In the only action of the day, the football team defeated Colorado State 27-24 in overtime, in one of the most exciting games in recent memory for the Buffaloes.  Despite being on the field for more than 37 minutes, the Buffs defense made big plays when it had to and outscored the Rams 27-10 I the final three quarters and overtime.

Sunday, September 20, 2015

The day started early back at the Coors Events Center where the volleyball team defeated George Mason 3-1 as the Omni Invitational got back underway with the 9 a.m. match.  Gabby Simpson continued her brilliant play with 16 more kills and five services aces as the Buffs were especially tough in the third game, a 25-6 affair that set the CU record for fewest points allowed in a rally set, besting the previous record of eight points on four different occasions.

Shifting focus to Prentup Field, in its only action of the weekend, the soccer team dismantled Villanova, 3-0.  Brie Hooks got the Buffs on the board just over five minutes into the game.  Danica Evans and Brittany Stark both scored goals in the second half and keeper Kate Scheele made critical saves to keep the shutout in tact.

Back to the Events Center for the fourth and final match of the Omni Invitational saw the Buffs sweep rival Air Force.  Simpson again was key with 13 kills while Nicole Edelman directed the offense with 28 assists and 10 digs and added six kills of her own.

Meanwhile in the only varsity event taking place outside of the area, the womenGÇÖs golf team had a day for the ages in Madison, Wisc., at the East & West Match Play Challenge.  In SundayGÇÖs stroke play, the Buffs shot a team score of 11-under par 277 to match the school record while junior Esther Lee shot a CU record 8-under par 64 in the second round to win medalist honors.  The Buffs earned the No. 1 seed headed into MondayGÇÖs match play portion of the event, which is set up similar to the new format of the NCAA Championships. Senior Alexis Keating finished third, sophomore Brittany Fan ninth and Natalie Vivaldi 14th.

With the womenGÇÖs golf team technically going 7-0 in the eight team standings for match play, the overall record for the Buffs on the weekend was 13-0.

The week ahead for the Buffs is one of the busier weeks of the year with football, menGÇÖs golf, womenGÇÖs golf, soccer, tennis and volleyball all in action.  Home events include the tennis teamGÇÖs Colorado Invitational from Thursday through Sunday, the football teamGÇÖs game with Nicholls State at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and soccerGÇÖs game with California on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The menGÇÖs golf team then hosts its fall home meet, the Mark Simpson Invitational, Sept. 28-29 at Boulder Country Club to close out September.
