Colorado-Texas Notes
Colorado narrows Texas’ lead in the all-time series to 14-10 and has won the last two. This was the first meeting between the two former Big 12 Conference rivals since Colorado joined the Pac-12 for the 2011-12 season. It was Colorado’s second neutral site win over the Longhorns in five tries.
Colorado’s 13 wins over ranked opponents in Boyle’s seventh season is by far the best streak in team history. In fact Boyle coached teams, with a record of 13-24, have accounted for 23 percent of wins over ranked opponents (57) since 1949-50.
It was Colorado’s first win over a ranked nonconference opponent since its 75-72 win over No. 6/7 Kansas on Dec. 7, 2013. It was Colorado’s first win over a ranked opponent away from Boulder since a 76-53 win over No. 19 Oregon on March 7, 2013.
Colorado’s five free throw attempts were its fewest since having four against Utah on Jan. 8, 2016. The Buffaloes, who hit four of those attempts, are 50-of-59 over the last three games (.847).
Colorado bounced back on the boards. After losing the rebound margin to Notre Dame by three (41-38), Colorado held a double-digit rebound lead for much of the game against Texas, ending at plus-9 (41-32).
George King (12 points, 13 rebounds) – Recorded his second straight double-double and third in his career. Matched his career-high 13 rebounds set last night against Notre Dame. King had 29 points and 26 rebounds over the two-day series (14.5 ppg, 13.0 rpg). King had 10 rebounds in the first half alone. He entered the week with 16 rebounds in his first three games combined.
Wesley Gordon (6 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) – His first multi-block game of the year, puts him at 161 overall for his career tying Ted Allen (1992-95) for third place on CU’s all-time list. He needs just one to match former teammate Josh Scott (2012-16) for second at 162. Gordon has at least nine rebounds in four of five games this season and leads Colorado at 9.6 per game.
Derrick White (16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks) – Led Colorado in scoring for the second time this season. Made his lone free throw attempt, increasing his streak to 11 straight over three games since going an uncharacteristic 3-of-8 against Seattle U.
Josh Fortune (11 points, 2-of-2 FT) extended his team-best streak of consecutive free throws made to 15.
