Colorado-Washington State Notes

Washington State narrows Colorado’s lead in the series to 9-3. The Cougars snap the Buffaloes three game winning streak in the series. Colorado has won 8-of-10 meetings since joining the Pac-12 for the 2011-12 season.
 
Colorado has dropped its last seven, its longest streak since 2008-09. It’s also Colorado’s first 0-7 conference start since the 1992-93 started the Big Eight schedule at 0-8. The Buffaloes have lost their last 10 Pac-12 road games.
 
Colorado trailed at halftime for the 11th time this season, moving to 3-8 in those contests. The Buffaloes started out 5-of-8 from the field (.625) and had a 14-7 lead but finished 7-of-19 (.368). Washington State outscored Colorado 32-21 over the final 13:39 of the first half.
 
Colorado trailed by 10 points (79-69) with 3:26 left in the game before embarking on a 14-4 run to send the game to overtime. Derrick White scored 10 of Colorado’s points during that run including a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining to tie the game at 83-83.
 
Colorado drops to 49-54 all-time in overtime and has lost its last two. The Buffaloes are 17-24 in road overtime contests.
 
Three of the last five meetings between Colorado and WSU have gone to overtime, with the Cougars winning two of three. Both of Washington State’s Pac-12 wins over Colorado have been in overtime and at Beasley Coliseum.
 
It was the first back-to-back overtime games for the Buffaloes since the first two games of the 1996-97 season, an 82-80 home win over Drake on Nov. 24, 1996, and a 78-72 win over Auburn in Hawai’i on Nov. 29.
 
Washington State’s 13 3-pointers were a season high.
 
Colorado has lost its last three when four or more players score in double-digits after beginning the season with seven straight wins in that category.
 
Xavier Johnson (15 points, 8 rebounds, 6-of-8 FG) recorded his sixth straight game scoring in double figures and 16th this season. Averaged 9.5 rebounds on the two-game road swing this week. He has made 58 percent from the floor the last six games (45-of-78). Moved up to 17th in career scoring, right at 1,300 points, and into a three-way tie for 14th in career starts at 86.
 
Wesley Gordon (15 points, 6 rebounds, 5-of-6 FG, 5-of-5 FT) recorded his eighth double-figure scoring game of the year and third in the last five games (10.0 ppg during that span). He has made 29 of his last 45 field goal attempts (.644). Matched his most points (8) and field goals made (3) in a first half this year (Wofford). Moves into a five-way tie for 12th place in career games played at 119 and 14th in minutes (3,151). Picked up his 190th career blocked shot.
 
Derrick White (25 points, 6 assists, 8-of-8 FT) held without a first half field goal for just the second time this year (Fort Hays State), but responded with 21 points in the second half and overtime (19 in the 2nd half). Led Colorado in scoring for the ninth time this season while recording his seventh game of 20 or more points. Averaged 24 points and 7 assists on the road trip…registered his sixth game of the season with five or more free throws made without miss. Has made 13 straight and 56 of his last 60 free throws (.933)
 
George King (18 points, 9 rebounds, 3-of-5 3FG) led Colorado in rebounding for the ninth time this season. The team leader in double-doubles with five, it’s the third time King has missed a double-double by a single rebound. He has made 11 of his last 18 from 3-point range (.611). He recorded his 100th career 3-point field goal.
