Colorado-Xavier Notes

Xavier takes over the series lead 2-1 as the Musketeers win in the first meeting between the two teams at the Cintas Center.

Colorado has dropped its last eight true road games to ranked opponents.

The 96 points given up to Xavier is a season-high and the most since the Buffaloes surrendered 101 at No.7 Oregon on Feb. 18, 2017. Colorado gave up 49 points in the first half, second most in a half this season (50 in the second half vs. Drake). It’s the most in a first half since giving up 51 to UCLA on Jan. 12, 2017.

Xavier made 35 of 58 from the field (.603), the best percentage since Arizona had those exact same numbers on Feb. 22, 2014. Xavier’s 65.4 percent shot in the second half (17-26) was the most by a CU opponent in one half since Oregon hit 75.9 percent (22-29) in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Pac-12 Tournament. Xavier’s 56.3 percent shot in the first half is the best by a CU opponent since UCF shot 61.5 percent (16-26) in the first half of last year’s first round NIT game.

Xavier made 10 of its first 12 shots building a 31-10 lead. The Buffaloes had eight turnovers during that span. Xavier built its lead to as much as 26 late in the first half (46-20), but Colorado ended the half on a 13-3 run. After Xavier got the lead back up to 22 (67-45), the Buffaloes cut it down to 13 with an 11-2 run. Xavier then put the game away with a 22-6 run to reach its largest lead at 29 (91-62).

Ten of Colorado’s 16 turnovers came in the first half.

McKinley Wright IV (16 points, 5 assists) has scored in double-figures in all nine games, the most since Alec Burks scored in his first 20 in 2009-10. He has recorded a blocked shot in seven of nine games and leads the team with eight overall. It was his third game with at least five assists.

George King (15 points, 8 rebounds) became the 34th player in Colorado history to reach 1,000 points, hitting that milestone with a drive to the basket at the 8:29 mark of the first half. He remains 34th in career scoring at 1,010 points. King has grabbed at least eight rebounds in four of the last five games (9.8 rpg during that span).

Namon Wright (20 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds) season high and fifth 20-point performance by a Colorado player this season. His six steals was a personal best in 70 career collegiate games (counting two seasons at Missouri) and the most by a Buffalo since Spencer Dinwiddie had six against Jackson State on Nov. 16, 2013.

The two Wrights and King accounted for 51 of Colorado’s 69 points. That trio was 19 of 43 (.442) from the field while the rest of the team was 6 of 22 (.273)

Colorado’s seven steals as a team was a season high.
