Colorado-New Mexico Notes
Colorado improved to 8-1 overall and has won six straight, its longest win streak since claiming the first six of last season.
Colorado trailed by 17 points, 32-15, with 7:07 left in the first half. The comeback from a 17-point deficit is the third largest in a true road game since 1947 when those records became available. The Buffaloes trailed by 23 in the first half at Kansas State on Feb. 26, 1955 before claiming a 63-60 win. Colorado was down by 20 at Texas A&M late in the first half on Jan. 28, 1998, before coming back for a 68-67 win. Overall it ties for the seventh largest comeback in that time frame.
Colorado had four players score in double figures. The Buffaloes have had four or more double-digit scorers in eight of nine games (all wins).
Colorado takes over the series lead from New Mexico at 8-7 and evens up the series in Albuquerque at 3-3.
The Buffaloes pick up their second true road win of the season (2-1) after going 1-10 in road contests last season.
Colorado had 12 turnovers in the first half which led to 22 New Mexico points. The Buffaloes turned over just once in the final 20 minutes.
Colorado held New Mexico to 37.1 percent shooting in the second half after allowing 52 percent over the previous 60 minutes (UIC game, first half of New Mexico).
Colorado outrebounded New Mexico 51-38. It’s the fifth time this season the Buffaloes have been plus-10 or better on the boards and fourth time in the last six outings. Colorado’s 51 rebounds were a season-high and its most in a road game since grabbing 51 at USC on Jan. 26, 2012.
Colorado has 14 offensive rebounds in the last two games.
Tyler Bey (16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks) recorded his fifth career double-double and third this year. All three of this year’s double-doubles have come in the last four games. His five blocks tied a career high and team season best (at San Diego). He had entered the game with just one block in his last five outings. Bey scored in double figures for the fifth-straight game and sixth time overall this season. He is averaging 15.8 points and 10 rebounds the last five games.
McKinley Wright IV (12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) moved into a tie with Lynn Baker (1963-67) for 20th on CU’s all-time assists list with 229. Tied a season-low in assists, but had a season-high in rebounds. He scored in double-figures for the 35th time in 41 career games.
Evan Battey (10 points, 9 rebounds) career-high in rebounds by three boards, just missing his first double-double. Scored in double-figures for the fourth time and third time in the last five games.
Deleon Brown (8 points, 3-6 FT) scored a season-high in points and his most since scoring 10 last preseason against South Dakota State. Had season-highs in free throws made and attempted and field goal attempts. Matched his career-high with six free throw attempts.
Lucas Siewert (12 points, 6 rebounds) rebounded from a mini 3-point slump – 0-3 last two games – to hit 2 of 4 from long range, making multiple 3-point field goals for the sixth time this season. Registered his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season. Grabbed at least six rebounds for the fifth time in six outings.
Namon Wright (8 points, 2 assists, 4-5 FT) played in his 100th career NCAA Division I game (his 39th with Colorado).
