Hawai’i improves its series record against Colorado to 4-0; all at Hawai’i. The Buffaloes fell to the Rainbow Warriors for the second-straight time at the Diamond Head Classic.Colorado played its first overtime game of the year, dropping to 51-55 all-time and 17-25 on the road. The loss snapped a two-game overtime win streak by the Buffaloes, although they have lost three straight on the road with the extra session.
Colorado had season-lows in points (62), field goals made (21), field goal percentage (.339), 3-pointers made (4) and assists (8). The Buffaloes matched their season low for rebounds (35).
Colorado was outrebounded for the third time this year (all three losses). The 48 rebound by Hawaii were the most by a CU opponent since Washington had 50 on Jan. 20, 2018. The plus-13 advantage the Rainbow Warriors had on the board was the most by a CU opponent since Washington was 16-plus in that same game last year.
Hawaii’s Zigmars Raimo had 17 rebounds, the most by a CU opponent since Northern Colorado’s Dominique Lee pulled down 17 in Boulder on Dec. 13, 2014.
Colorado has shot just 23 percent from 3-point range during the first two games of the tournament (9 of 40). The Buffaloes are shooting 65 percent from the free throw line in that same time frame (28 of 43).
Colorado forced 17 Hawai’i turnovers, tied for the second most this season by a CU opponent, but the Buffaloes managed only eight points off those turnovers.
Tyler Bey (3 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks) tied a career high with three steals in the first half alone. He has 10 in the last five games. Bey also recorded a pair of blocks and has 10 in the last three. He recorded his eighth career game with double-figure rebounds, including five in the last six games.
McKinley Wright IV (20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 9-12 FG) recorded his ninth 20-point game and third of the season. Hit a season-best nine field goals; one off his personal best. He made his first seven from the field before finishing 9 of 12. Matched his season high with five rebounds. Scored in double-figures for the 37th time in 43 games and dished out at least five assists for the 30th time.
Lucas Siewert (19 points, 7-14 FG, 2 blocks) established a new career-high in points, one better than the 18 he scored against Portland earlier this season. Also matched a personal bests with seven field goals made and two blocks. Had missed his first six 3-point attempts in Hawai’i before connecting on his final one. Scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and overtime.
