Colorado-UIC Notes
Colorado improved to 7-1 overall and has won five straight, its longest win streak since claiming the first six of last season.
Colorado had four players score in double figures. The Buffaloes have had four or more double-digit scorers in seven of eight games (all wins).
Colorado had its fifth-straight game scoring 80 points, its most since scoring 80 in 10 in a row during its 10-game win streak in Nov.-Dec., 2015. The Buffaloes have won 16-straight when scoring 80 or more points (last loss: Feb. 23, 2017, 86-81 vs. Utah)
UIC’s Jordan Blount and Marcus Ottey combined for 19 of 27 from the field (.703) and combined for 42 points. The rest of UIC shot 11 of 33 (.333) and scored 30 points.
UIC’s 56.6 percent shooting was the best against the Buffs since Xavier shot 60.3 percent on Dec. 9, 2017 in Cincinnati. It was the most by an opponent at the CU Events Center since Utah shot 57.8 percent on Feb. 7, 2015 in a 79-51 Utes win.
This was the 10th time since 2010-11 CU has allowed an opponent to shoot 56.6 percent or better, but this is the first time the Buffaloes came out on top in those games.
Colorado had a season-high nine steals. UIC had 24 turnovers, the most by a CU opponent since Washington State also had 24 on Feb. 12, 2017, an 81-49 Colorado win.
Colorado has scored at least 50 points in the second half in five of eight games.
Colorado tied a season-high with 25 free throws made. The Buffaloes have shot 78.4 percent from the line the last four games (87-111).
McKinley Wright IV (21 points, 9 assists 3 steals) has moved into 22nd in career assists, now with 226. He passed former teammate Dominique Collier who had 221 from 2014-18. Wright had his eighth game with 20-plus points. He has scored in double digits in 34 of 40 career games and at least five assists in 28 outings. His three steals tied a career-high and the team’s season best. Wright has two or more steals in six of eight contests including seven in the last three.
Tyler Bey (15 points, 15 rebounds) recorded his fourth career double-double and second of the season. His 15 rebounds are a career and team season high and the most by a Buffalo since George King had 15 against Air Force on Nov. 26, 2017. Bey has shot 66.7 percent over the last three games (18 of 27). It was his fifth game with double-figure rebounds.
Shane Gatling (12 points, 6-8 FT) has scored in double figures in four straight games (11.8 ppg). He has made 18 of his last 20 free throw attempts (.900)
