Oregon-California Quotes

Oregon Head Coach Katrina Dowd

Assessment of the lopsided victory against Cal
“It’s the postseason; it’s season 2.0. We spoke about that, and what it takes mentally and physically to be able to compete with this being the first Pac-12 Tournament. We started the game with high energy and the shots were going in. We won six or seven on the draw circle to start. That comes from focus, discipline, and just being fired up. We were really excited to be here. We got back to playing team lacrosse since the last time we saw Cal. They beat us and I think that brought a new factor to our players. We understood we wanted to extend the season for our seniors for this team to keep going.”

On facing Colorado for the third time this season
“We’ll be facing that offense for the third time. They’re an unbelievable team. They’re the one seed and Pac-12 champions for a reason. Their offense is unbelievable and their attack is probably the most potent in all of the country. We have a lot of work cut out for us on how to win against them and stop them. They’re dangerous in the draw circle. They play great team defense. We’ve seen them twice and we hung with them for a little bit but they pulled away. So, we have got to be able to put together a 60-minute game to be able to give us a chance.”

 California Head Coach Brooke Eubanks

General
“Obviously, it doesn’t go well when they score a goal for eight to nine minutes in a row. Credit to Oregon; they’re extremely athletic and very good at taking advantage of opportunities given to them. We were trying to take something away and they were able to counter that. They’re very energetic and they came out firing. It took us time to find out feet and it was just too much time to overcome.”

On the overall season
“It’s always hard for outsiders to see how far we came. Four years ago (when I first started) we had three total wins. Every year we’ve come out and gotten better. As hard as it is the see that in the moment to focus on, that’s really the big picture. We’ve put a lot of focus on turnovers. Even in this game, we just had nine. We’re making progress. The outlier might not always look like it, but it’s something we do take pride in. And I think it’s allowing us to inch our way every year. We’re trying to be good for a very long time. We don’t just want a winning season. We want to have winning careers and be competitive, that takes a lot of time.”
