  • The Gamble STEPS program supports a graduating student-athlete's healthy transition to "life after CU."
  • The Program provides opportunities for student-athletes to reflect upon and leverage their academic and athletic experiences at Colorado.
  • The program will support a student-athlete's wellness and well-being through the development of strategies for post-athletic success.

Program Components:

BUFFALO BRIDGE PROGRAM – Provides accepted graduates with no remaining eligibility an opportunity to receive funding for an internship,* study-abroad experience or graduate school on the Boulder campus (or selected graduates to the CU Medical School).

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS CHECK IN AND CHECK UP –- The last year of competitive collegiate athletics is one of excitement and anticipation and the transition to post-collegiate life can also be one of stress and anxiety. Student-athletes are highly encouraged to meet with a member of the Department’s Psychological Health and Performance team to discuss this transition. Student-athletes are also required to complete an exit physical with their team athletic trainer and meet with their sport dietitian.

CAREER AND POST-GRADUATE PLANNING – One-on-one career and/or post graduate education coaching, job search assistance, workshops, seminars as well as our Career Clothing Reimbursement Program and opportunities for funding for postgraduate test prep and fee.

STAYING CONNECTED – Encouraging a lifelong connection with CU athletics and CU Boulder through membership and participation in the Alumni “C” Club, Forever Buffs Cub (Boulder Alumni Association and associated chapters), and Buffs for Life.

PERSONAL FINANCE – Offering workshops providing information, financial resources and strategies necessary for new graduates.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND FEEDBACK – Each student-athlete has the opportunity to provide input on their CU experience with a senior level administrator in the Department of Athletics.

SENIOR STEPS DINNER – Annual dinner celebrating a student-athlete’s final year at CU as well as providing information regarding resources available to support a positive school-to-career transition. Additionally, and in conjunction with the Herbst Academic Center, information regarding graduation/graduation ceremonies, senior awards and events are highlighted.
