William Byrnes, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Integrative Physiology at CU Boulder

His research efforts focus on examining the adaptations associated with acute and chronic exercise and determining the potential of these adaptations to optimize health and athletic performance. The outcome of his research in the areas of muscle plasticity and exercise bioenergetics has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine and Science in Sports & Exercise, and High Altitude Medicine & Biology.  He also has a long history of working with the United States Olympic Committee, The Air Force Academy, in addition to selected athletic populations in the Boulder/Denver.  He is the Director of the Applied Exercise Science Laboratory which focuses on examining changes associated with long- and short-term physical activity and to determine the role of these changes in improving health and athletic performance.
