Colorado-Utah Tech Notes
Colorado scored 90 points for the fourth-consecutive game and sixth time in 11 nonconference games. It’s the first time in team history the Buffaloes have scored at least 90 points in four-straight games. Colorado had just two games of 90-plus points last season and just three in 2021-22.
Colorado has won four-straight and five of its last six. The 9-2 overall record is Colorado’s best after 11 games since hitting the same mark in 2019-20.
Colorado shot 57.4 percent, hitting the .500 mark for the fifth time in sixth games and the eighth time overall. The Buffaloes improve to 101-8 in the Tad Boyle era when shooting at least 50 percent.
Colorado finished right at 20 assists, hitting the 20-assist mark for the seventh time this season, the most since the 2010-11 also had seven but that was in 38 games.
Colorado outrebounded its opponent in all 11 non-conference games after more than doubling up Utah Tech (44-20). The plus-24 margin was CU’s best of the season.
Utah Tech’s 21 rebounds were matched a CU opponent season-low and was the fewest at the CU Events Center since the Buffaloes held Gardner-Webb to 18 on Mar. 18, 2015 (CBI Tournament). CU’s 44 rebounds was its second-highest of the season (FSU – 46).
Colorado had five players score in double-digits, improving to 6-0 this season when at least five players score in double-figures.
Luke O’Brien (18 points, 8-10 FG, 4 rebounds) – Set career-highs in points and field goals made. Has scored in double-digits in three consecutive games for the first time in his career (he had a string of three-straight appearances in double-figures last year, with two DNPs in the middle of that stretch). Made 2 of 3 from downtown and has now made 9 of his last 13 from 3-point range. Averaging 15.0 points over the last three contests.
Eddie Lampkin Jr. (16 points, 9 rebounds, 4-7 FG, 8-10 FT) season-high in points. Overall career-high in free throws made (both CU & TCU – previous was 4) and matched his TCU career-most free throws attempted.
KJ Simpson (23 points, 8-14 FG, 5-8 3FG, 6 assists, 3 steals) became the 22nd player in team history to reach 100 career steals, finishing with 102. He’s one behind Michel Morandais (2000-04) and Vince Kelley (1981-84) tied for 20th place with 103. Simpson’s moved up two spots on the career-assists list to No. 18 with 247, passing Jay Sferra (242 from 1973-77) and Reggie Morton (243 from 1988-90). Simpson has 12 steals over the last three games (4.0 spg). His five 3-point field goals matched his career-best set against CSU on Dec. 2, 2022.
Tristan da Silva (15 points, 7 rebounds) moved into 32nd in career scoring, now with 1,085 passing Austin Dufault (1,076 from 2008-12) and Larry Vaculik (1,084 from 1974-78).
Redshirt freshman walkon Greg Gerhardt made his first collegiate appearance, playing in the final minute.
