Career: Averaged 8.2 points and 1.4 assists in two seasons at Colorado. He totaled 96 3-point field goals hitting just above 32 percent for his Buffaloes career. Shot 83 percent from the free throw line (117-141). Overall in three NCAA Division I seasons he averaged 7.0 points over 101 career games with 126 total 3-point field goals made.

2019-20 (Senior): Averaged 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds, appearing in all 32 games. Ranked fourth on the team in both assists (38) and 3-point field goals made (37). Came off the bench for the first 12 games before starting the Iona contest (12/29) and remained in the starting lineup for the rest of the season. Had a season-high 20 points at Colorado State (12/13), hitting 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. It was his fourth 20-point game in a CU uniform. Had six games scoring in double-figures, including a 13-point effort vs. USC (2/20), his most during Pac-12 play this season. Ranked second on the team in assists during the Pac-12 regular season with 25. Had a season-high five assists vs. Washington (1/25), a game he also finished with nine points, hitting 4 of 5 from the field. Once again shot exceptionally well from the free throw line making 32 of 38 attempts. His 84.2 percent from the line matched classmate Lucas Siewert for the best on the team this season, regardless of number of attempts. He sank 12 of 14 attempts (.857) during the Pac-12 regular season.

2018-19 (Junior): Averaged just under 10 points while playing in all 36 games in his first season in a Colorado uniform, leading the Buffaloes in 3-point field goals made (59) and attempted (185). His 185 3-point attempts are the eighth most in a single season in CU history and most since Blair Wilson attempted 190 in 2003-04. Second on the team in assists (60) and steals (34). He led the Buffaloes and ranked fifth in the Pac-12 Conference in free throw shooting at 82.5 percent (85-103). His free throw accuracy climbed to 86.5 percent during conference games (45-52), ranking second among all league players during that span. Scored at least 20 points on three occasions, with his top two scoring performances coming in both games against UCLA. He had a game, team-season and career-high 28 points during the win in Los Angeles (2/6). Made seven 3-pointers at UCLA, tying for the third-most in team history. It was the 14th time a CU player had made seven in a game, but the first since Richard Roby had seven against Kansas State on Feb. 26, 2005. He made his first six attempts and finished the game 7 of 9 from 3-point range. He was 8 of 10 overall from the field while dishing out five assists along with four rebounds and three steals. During the win in Boulder (3/7), he scored 26 points with three steals and three assists. He was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line, CU's best single-game mark without a miss in two seasons. Led Colorado in scoring for the first time with 21 points at Utah (1/20). During conference games, he ranked seventh in 3-pointers made (2.3 3mpg) and 23rd in scoring (12.1 ppg). Started all but three games, averaging 26 minutes an outing. He had 16 games scoring in double-digits and led the Buffaloes in steals 13 times and in assists on six occasions.

2017-18 (Sophomore, Indian Hills CC): Earned NJCAA Division I and NABC All-America honors, averaging 16.6 points, 2.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He helped the Warriors to a 33-1 record, with their only loss coming in the second round of the NJCAA Tournament. Gatling matched the Indian Hills school record for 3-pointers made in one season at 102, on his way to Region XI Player of the Year honors. He shot 39 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line. The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Gatling was named MVP of the 2018 NJCAA Coaches All-Star game in Las Vegas, in May, scoring 22 points and dishing out six assists.

2016-17 (Freshman, Niagara): Averaged 4.7 points in 33 games for the Purple Eagles out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He shot 34 percent from 3-point range (30-88) and 73 percent from the free throw line (19-26).

High School: A 2016 graduate of Baldwin High School. A three-year starter, Gatling helped the Bruins to a 49-7 record, including a perfect 33-0 mark in league play. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior, leading Baldwin to the Long Island AA championship. Gatling earned 2016 Newsday All-Long Island AA First Team and All-Tournament Team honors. He was a two-time All-New York State Public High School Team selection and a two-time member of the Long Island High School Basketball Honor Roll.

Academics: Graduated from Colorado in May 2020 with his degree in Ethnic Studies.

Personal: Shane Gatling was born on March 26, 1998, in Queens, N.Y. He is the son of Cathy and Wayne Gatling and has one sister, Shayna. He is a cousin of former NFL All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. Gatling enjoys playing the piano, drums and video games. His favorite professional teams are the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He joined Colorado because “it was the best fit for me and I think we’ll win a championship.”
