2008 OUTLOOK: Greg is training hard this year to make a contribution at the Big 12 meet which CU will host this year.
2007: Castro competed in the 3,000 during the indoor season and the 1,500 and 5,000 during the outdoor season. Castro took eighth at the Potts Indoor Invitational, running a personal record of 9:22.13. He then ran a pr in the 5k at the Oregon Invitational during the outdoor season at 15:23.60, to take 19th. Castro’s best result in the 1,500 came at the Potts Invitational, where he placed 14th, running a 4:20.56.
2006: Castro only participated in the indoor season. He placed 13th at the Air Force Invite in the 3,000m (9:32.14). Castro also ran the 5,000m at the Husky Classic, picking up a 44th-place finish (15:05.67). Both times were personal records for Castro.
2005: Castro participated in the mile and the 3,000-meter races during the indoor season. He ran at the Air Force Open and took fourth in the mile (4:50.74). Castro’s best 3k finish was at the Colorado Open when he took seventh (9:41.00). Castro participated in the 1500-m and the steeplechase during the outdoor season. He earned a 14th place finish at the Colorado Invitational with a time of 4:17.73. At the Jack Christianson Invitational, he took 10th in the steeplechase with a personal record (10:32.04)
2004: Castro competed during the indoor season in the 3,000-meter run. His season best time came when he raced at the Air Force Invite and clocked a 9:35.39 to claim sixth place. He also battled at the Air Force Classic, as he ran a 9:45.95 to finish 14th. Outdoors, Castro competed in the 1,500-meter distance with a time of 4:17.73 at the Jack Christensen Invite to earn 14th place.
CROSS COUNTRY: In 2007, Castro competed in four races for the Buffs. His best finish was second at the Fort Hays Invite. Castro finished the 8k loop in 25:51.20. He was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week for his performance. In 2006 Castro took 49th in the
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner in track and cross country at Boulder High School, Castro was a first-team All-Centennial League performer and all-region in cross as a junior and senior. He added first-team all-state in cross country, along with all-region and all-county honors on the track as a senior. His personal records include 15:56 (5K cross and seventh all-time at BHS), 2:01 (800), 4:31.45 (1,600) and 10:03.56 (3,200).
ACADEMICS: Castro has been a mainstay on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a Buff. He is an advertising major with a better-than 3.0 grade point average.
