Bio
2019: Capped off his collegiate cross country career as a four-time All-American, just the fourth Buff in CU history…recorded his second straight top-10 NCAA finish, placing seventh as CU’s No. 2 harrier…his performance helped CU finish third in the team race…led the team at regionals with a fifth-place finish to record his fourth all-region honor…placed third for the team at the Pac-12 Championships, finishing eighth overall…earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors and helped the Buffs win their seventh Pac-12 title in nine seasons…also led CU at pre-nationals with an eight-place finish…was 10th at the Joe Piane Invitational, his highest finish of the year…started the season third at the Wyoming Invitational.
2018: After redshirting in 2017, came back to have another great campaign…led the Buffs at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, finishing 10th overall…two weeks later, he was third for CU at pre-nationals, placing 16th…earned his third all-conference honor, as well as his third all-region award, with an eighth place finish at Pac-12s and a 12th-place finish at regionals, respectively…became a three-time All-American at NCAAs, finishing ninth as the Buffs placed fourth.
2017: Only raced once before his season was cut short due to injury...recorded a 20th place finish at the Joe Piane Invitational.
2016: Had another great season for the Buffs…although he raced the Rocky Mountain Shootout unattached, he won with the sixth best time in course history (24:38)…his first uniformed race was NCAA Pre-Nationals, where he was 27th overall…helped the team win its sixth consecutive Pac-12 team title, finishing sixth overall… at regionals, he moved up one spot to fifth...earned his second All-America honor at nationals, finishing 33rd…earned All-Pac-12 First Team and all-region honors.
2015: Had an outstanding freshman campaign…raced unattached at a pair of meets before earning a spot on the varsity roster…at NCAA Pre-Nationals, his first race in uniform for CU, he was 46th overall, crossing the finish as CU’s No. 5 runner…a couple weeks later, he recorded a sixth-place finish at Pac-12s, helping the Buffs to their fifth straight conference title…earned all-region honors two weeks later at regionals, placing 19th…capped off his season with a 26th-place finish at NCAAs, earning his first All-American honor.
HIGH SCHOOL: Won the 2015 3A Washington State 1,600 and 3,200-meter titles as a senior and owns the Wildcats’ 3,200 record (8:57.00)…competed at the 2015 USA Junior Cross Country Championships in Boulder and placed third to earn a spot on the roster for the world championships where he was the top American finisher at 27th…was also a member of the 2015 APA Pan American Cross Country Cup team…was a three-time FootLocker Cross Country All-American (2012-14), and was a 2012 3,200 New Balance Outdoor Nationals All-American…was the MSHS MVP four times, three on the cross country course and once for track…was all-state and all-conference six times (four cross country and two track).
HIGH SCHOOL BESTS: 800-meters: 1:56.55; 1,600-meters: 4:10.95; 3,200-meters: 8:57.00.

PERSONAL: John Hiatt Dressel…born May 2, 1997 in Spokane, Wash…son of Alex, his high school cross country and track coach, and Linette Dressel, of Colbert, Wash…has one sibling, Hayden…father also ran track and cross country at Arkansas….aunt Lisa (Dressel) Ferraro ran at Wisconsin and Auburn…enjoys soccer, traveling and hiking.
