CAREER UPDATE: Kyle is a three-time All-American (one at Indiana and two at CU). He earned two of those honors on the cross country course but also was named an All-American after placing 12th in the 10,000-meters at outdoor nationals. Kyle ranks ninth on the all-time performers list and is looking to make more of an impact in his second and final season with the Buffs.
2009: Kyle ran in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs during the indoor season. His best 3k finish for the season was 8:17.59, which came at the UW Invite (1/31). Just two weeks later, he returned to the same track to compete in the Husky Classic (2/14) and ran 14:20.62 in the 5k. His best finish in the 5k was at the Big 12 Championship where he placed 11th overall. Kyle had a better outdoor season; sticking with the 5k but also adding the 10k. He ran a PR of 13:59.75 at Mt. Sac Relays, which was also a regional mark in the event. Kyle raced to a fourth-place finish in the 5k at the Big 12 Championship (14:28.81) in Lubbock, Texas. The distance Kyle is most comfortable with is the 10k, which he ran three times. He recorded a PR of 28:52.29 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invite (5/2), which qualified him for nationals and made his the ninth best CU performer in the 10k. At nationals he earned All-American honors with a 12th place finish after crossing the tape in 29:20.35.
AT INDIANA: Kyle competed for two years at IU on the track. As a sophomore, he ran a PR of 14:03.38 at the Stanford Invite on March 30, which was good enough to qualify him for regionals. Just two weeks later Kyle posted the second fastest time in IU history with a time of 29:14.01 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 13.
CROSS COUNTRY: Kyle became the No. 1 runner during the second meet of the 2008 season at the Rocky Mountain Shootout where he won the race in 25:20. He went on to lead the Buffs at pre-nats (seventh), Big 12s (eighth), NCAA Mountain Regions (sixth) and NCAAs (14th) to earn his first All-Big 12, All-Mountain Region and his second All-American honors. Kyle started the 2009 season running unattached at the Rocky Mountain Shootout and placed second overall to teammate Kenyon Neuman. At pre-nats, he was 28th overall and was the third Buff to finish. Kyle earned his second all-conference honor with a fifth-place finish at the Big 12 meet. Two weeks later he had the race he had been looking for all season and led the Buffs by taking fourth at regionals. Kyle was 231st at nationals after battling the flu.
CROSS COUNTY (AT INDIANA): Kyle used a redshirt his first season in 2005 at IU and then went on to earn his first All-American cross county honor at the 2006 NCAA Championship. He placed 33rd overall and ran a mark of 31:39.3. He recorded his first title at the George Mason Invitational 8k and was named the Big Ten Runner of the Week on Oct. 3 for the win. Kyle was third at the Great Lakes regional and 16th at the Big Ten Championship. In 2007, Kyle was 15th at the Big Ten Championship and took fifth at the regional meet.
HIGH SCHOOL: Kyle earned all-state honors in cross country during his sophomore year. That year he also placed fifth in the 3,200-meters at the state meet and owns the school record (9:17) in the event. Kyle took 13th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional meet in 2005. At the all-star cross country meet, he was ninth. Kyle served as the team captain his junior and senior seasons. He was a two-time winner of the Set A Good Example Award at HSHS and served as the vice-president of the student council.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Kyle is majoring in marketing.
PERSONAL: Jordan Kyle was born on January 7, 1987. His parents are John and Marcia Kyle of Fishers, Ind. He has two older sisters, Kerry and Mackenzie. Kyle’s grandfather, John Milton Kyle, played baseball at Indiana University and was recruited by the Chicago Cubs. He lists his hobbies as photography and Spanish cooking.
