2009: Indoor: Slack ran the mile and 3,000-meter runs during the indoor season. She took third at the Air Force Duals in the mile (5:14.26) and was fourth at the Potts Indoor Invite. Slack PR’ed in the 3k at the Husky Classic (9:58.07) and was 25^th at the Big 12 Championship.

Outdoor: She was granted a medical hardship for the outdoor season after competing in just one race for the Buffs. Slack was fifth at the Potts Invite (4:47.40).

CROSS COUNTRY: Slack showed steady improvements throughout her freshman campaign on the cross country team, earning a varsity spot immediately. She started off 38^th at the ISU open and moved up to 13^th at the Rocky Mountain Shootout. Slack took 165^th at pre-nationals as CU’s No. 7 harrier. She was the sixth Buff to finish at the conference championship, placing 44^th overall. Her top postseason performance came at regionals when she took 31^st overall and scored for the Buffs as the fourth to finish. Slack did not compete during the 2009 season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Slack qualified for state on the cross country team four years and was the team MVP every season. She was awarded LHS’s Most Dedicated Track Runner as a senior and was also chosen to represent track and cross country on Liberty’s Wall of Fame. Slack’s highest finish at the state track championship was in 2008 when she took seventh in the 1,600-meter run. She was all-conference throughout all four years at LHS.

ACADEMICS: Slack is majoring in Spanish at Colorado. She earned a 3.658 GPA to date and is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

PERSONAL: Kaylen Marie Slack was born on August 17, 1990 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Her parents are Thomas and Laurie Slack. She has two older sisters, Cori and Andrea. Slack lists playing guitar, writing music and running as her hobbies.
