2008: Gioscia only ran during the indoor season. She ran the mile and the 3k. Gioscia took first in the mile at the Potts Invite and recorded a collegiate best of 5:28.86 at the Don Barrett Open; placing eighth overall. She ran the 3k once at the Air Force Invite (11:02.82) and took seventh.

2007: Gioscia only competed during the outdoor season in 2007. She ran the 1,500, 3,000, and 5,000-meter races. Gioscia ran a 5:02.92 in the 1,500 meters at the Tom Benich Invite for 10th place and ran an 11:10.46 in the 3k at the Potts Invitational (eighth). Her best result on the season came at the Jack Christianson Invite in the 5k where she placed sixth in the race with a mark of 19:21.89.

2006: Redshirt. Did not compete.

CROSS COUNTRY: Gioscia took a redshirt in 2005. She started off the 2006 season strong at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, finishing 25th overall. At Pre-Nationals, she took 164th and was the seventh Buff. Gioscia took 88th at Big 12’s and was 81st at regionals. She served as the alternate at NCAA’s. Gioscia was unable to compete in 2007. Gioscia ran in a pair of races for the Buffs in 2008. She took second at the Air Force Invitational. A week later, she placed 62nd overall at the Big 12 Meet. Gioscia served as an alternate at regionals.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Gioscia (pronounced josh-ah) is an eight-time varsity letterwinner, a four-time Tri Peaks Conference, three-time regional and two-time 3A Colorado State Champion in cross country and eight-time league, five-time regional and six-time state champion on the track (three each in the 1,600 and 3,200-m). She competed in a pair of Foot Locker Midwest Regional Championships in Kenosha, Wis., finishing 23rd as a junior and 56th as a senior due to illness.  Her personal records in the 800-m (2:19.3 at the 2005 South Regional Championships), 1,600-m (a 12-second 3A state record 4:57.44 previously 5:09.36 set by Roaring Fork’s Caroline Cretti) and 3,200-m (11:20.91 2004 State Championships) are also Buena Vista prep records.

ACADEMICS: Buena Vista’s Valedictorian of the Class of 2005 is an integrative physiology major at Colorado.  Gioscia has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll the entire time at CU and carries an impressive 3.937 GPA. A Boettcher Scholarship Finalist, she was a four year honor roll and academic letterwinner, she also served as National Honor Society president her junior and senior years. She was the El Pomar Youth in Community Service president both her junior and senior years. 

PERSONAL:  Rachel Anna Gioscia was born Nov. 5, 1986 in Buena Vista.  Her parents are Robert and Anne Gioscia and she has one younger brother.  Her hobbies include fishing, camping, hiking and the outdoors.  She volunteered for a local Boy Scout troop, Avery Parsons Elementary School teaching after-school Spanish and EPYCS which awards grants to non-profit agencies while in high school.
