HIGH SCHOOL—A three-star recruit by the recruiting services … Rivals listed him as the No. 7 player in Colorado and the No. 91 wide receiver in the class with a rating of 5.7 … 247Sports ranked him as the No. 9 player out of Colorado and No. 163 receiver in the class, while the 247 Composite had him as the seventh-best player from Colorado and No. 121 receiver nationally … ESPN had him as the No. 14 player in the state and No. 216 wide receiver … He played four years of varsity football under former CU All-American Dave Logan at Cherry Creek where he won back-to-back Colorado State Championships as a junior and senior and were the state’s runners-up as a sophomore …  Cherry Creek was 45-5 in his four seasons, including a combined 23-0 with undefeated seasons his junior and senior campaigns … In his career, he hauled in 159 receptions for 2,081 yards and 26 touchdowns, his 159 receptions ranked 10th in Colorado high school history … He had 31 career games with three or more receptions and four games with multiple touchdown receptions ...  He also had one rush for six yards and was 7-of-17 passing for 59 yards … He also had three kickoff returns for 28 yards and 11 punt returns for 105 yards, giving him 2,220 all-purpose yards in his career … He was named a Sports Illustrated preseason All-American prior to his senior year when he had 45 catches for 648 yards and nine touchdowns as a team captain … He earned first-team all-state and all-conference honors as a senior … His junior year when he was second-team All-State, he caught 53 passes for 632 yards and nine touchdowns …. He also added one rush for six yards … His sophomore season, he caught 56 passes for 704 yards and seven touchdowns … That season he completed 7-of-17 passes for 59 yards, had one kickoff return for 22 yards and 11 punt returns for 105 yards … As a freshman, he caught five passes for 97 yards and one touchdown and added one kickoff return for six yards … Top games include three 100-yard games his senior season, catching seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns against Smoky Hill … He was at his best in the state playoffs, catching seven passes for 116 yards against Regis and then eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown in the semifinal against Pomona, while also catching a touchdown reception in the team’s state championship win over Valor Christian … His junior season, he had one 100-yard game, when he caught six passes for 112 yards against ThunderRidge, and caught two touchdowns twice, against both Mullen and Fairview … In the State Championship, he had five receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown … His first 100-yard game came his sophomore season against Castle View when he had eight receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown … He also played basketball at Cherry Creek and plans to play his senior season, as well … As a freshman, he averaged 2.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and .7 steals per game.
 
ACADEMICS—He is majoring in Business Accounting at Colorado … He was an Honor Roll student all-four years at Cherry Creek and named to the Academic All-State team twice … Named to the National Football Foundation's Colorado Chapter Academic All-Colorado first team.
 
PERSONAL—Born on Jan. 31, 2002 in Alexandria, Va.  … His parents are Josh Penry and Jamie Pierce … Both his parents played sports at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, his dad football and mom basketball … His dad was a state senator and was the youngest member of the Colorado State Senate when elected in 2006 … He continued a streak of signees from Cheery Creek, including Jonathan Van Diest (2017), Dimitri Stanley (2018), Alec Pell (2019) and Carson Lee and Jayle Stacks (2020) … He has three younger sisters … He enjoys spending time with his family, meditating, and doing yoga … He has hit a hole-in-one in golf … He volunteered with his basketball team at a homeless shelter … He worked for Epicurean Foods during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide food for needy families.
