CAREER: Scheele finished her CU career as one of the most prolific goalkeepers in school history. She finished ranked third in goals-against average (0.92), fourth in wins (21), fifth in save percentage (.788) and seventh in saves (134), despite playing just two seasons in Boulder.

SENIOR (2015): Scheele finished her senior season with 1,506:30 minutes and posted a 1.14 goals-against average with 56 saves in 16 starts (18 appearances). Scheele posted a 7-7-2 record and she added an assist. She led CU to a 3-0 shutout over Colorado College on Aug. 23, making one save in the first half, before resting during the second half with the match in hand. She also led the Buffs to a 4-0 shutout against New Mexico on Aug. 30, again playing in just the first half and stopping three shots. On Sept. 1, she recorded a solo shutout in a 1-0 win over Cincinnati with one save. She helped CU win the Colorado Cup on Sept. 11 at the University of Denver, making one save in another 1-0 win to clinch the trophy. Scheele notched her third shutout of the year on Sept. 20 with two saves in a 3-0 win over Villanova. On Sept. 27, she guided the Buffs to a 2-1 overtime win over No. 14 California with three saves to open Pac-12 play. After missing some time mid-season with an illness, she returned later in the year and made 26 saves in her final four matches. Scheele made six saves and also assisted on a goal in a 3-3 tie with No. 21 Arizona on Oct. 30 and then had a season-high nine saves and allowed just two goals against Arizona State on Nov. 1. She earned the team’s Academic Award and was named second-team Academic All-District VII and first-team Academic All-Pac-12, finishing her career with a 3.89 grade point average, while majoring in honors history.

JUNIOR (2014): Scheele turned in a stellar performance between the posts in her debut season for the Buffaloes. She logged 2,001 minutes in goal and shutout 11 opponents, which was third-most in the Pac-12, second most all-time in a single season in school history and already ranks fifth in the CU individual career record book, Six of her shutouts came against non-conference competition and she started her 2014 campaign holding the first three teams scoreless as the Buffs outscored their opponents 6-0 and five shutouts came against conference foes. She finished the season with 78 saves, and a 0.76 goals against average, fourth lowest mark in program history during one season. Scheele also was the goalkeeper of record in all 22 matches. Her 14 wins ties for second most all-time in a single season at the goalie position.

SOPHOMORE (2013 at COLORADO COLLLEGE): Scheele had a standout season as a sophomore at CC. She helped the squad to Conference USA regular season and tournament championships. She was named to the CUSA First Team and earned conference defensive player of the week and CUSA Tournament Most Valuable Defensive Player honors. Scheele started all 22 of CC’s games, spending just under 2000 minutes in the net and posting a 15-4-3 record. The Tigers dropped three of their first five games (two of which were against ranked opponents), but didn’t lose again until the end of conference play, helping them advance to the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in the first round to Duke in a shootout. Scheele improved in every area of play in her second year, allowing just 17 goals, for a goals-against average of 0.77, while grabbing 74 saves (and posting an .813 save percentage) and helping shut out a total of 13 opponents.

FRESHMAN (2012 at COLORADO COLLEGE): As a freshman, Scheele started 10 of her 12 games played, including the first five games of the season. She recorded four shutouts in 2012 and became the first CC freshman since 2005 to record back-to-back shutouts (against in-state rivals Denver and Colorado) to begin her career. She posted a 4-2-4 record, including a 2-2-1 mark in Conference USA play, helping the Tigers to the regular season title. Scheele made a season-high 10 saves at No. 5 BYU. At season’s end, she ranked in CUSA’s top 10 with four shutouts, a .333 shutouts per game average, a .790 save percentage and a 4.08 saves per game average.Â

HIGH SCHOOL: During her prep career, Scheele stood out both athletically and academically. At Roosevelt, Scheele was on honor roll for three years and earned an AP Scholar Award in 2012. With Crossfire Premier ECNL, Scheele helped her club to the regional finals in 2009 and semifinals in 2010. In 2011, she led Crossfire to the Washington State Championship and the ECNL finals, helping her to a spot on the ECNL National Showcase Event Series All-Event Team in San Antonio. The following year, she earned a spot on the All-Event Team in San Diego. Scheele also shined as a member of the Washington State ODP team from 2007-10. During each of those four years, she also attended the Region IV camp. She was invited to the U.S. U-18 National Team training camp in 2012. Scheele was also a member of the W-League player pools for both the Seattle Sounders in 2012 and the Colorado Rapids in 2013.   Â

PERSONAL: Kathryn Scheele was born on August 6, 1994 in Walla Walla, Washington. Her parents Leonard and Suzanne Scheele are both retired doctors of medicine. Her mother, who played water polo at Harvard, also works as a biomedical researcher. Scheele’s father was a professional cyclist. Her brother Steve wrestled for Stanford and currently attends the University of Michigan Law School. When not playing soccer, she enjoys baking, reading, drawing and hiking. After graduation, she hopes to become a history teacher or pursue a career in foreign affairs. Scheele is bilingual, fluently speaking English and Spanish, and volunteered as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher’s assistant. Scheele chose Colorado because she loves the atmosphere and support for student-athletes. She calls it an honor to be part of the legacy the dedicated players and coaches at Colorado are creating.
