He was in on 18 tackles (12 solo) for the season, with a tackle for loss, a third down stop, one quarterback pressure and two quarterback chasedowns (near sacks). He matched his career high of five tackles in CU’s overtime win over Kansas, when he also had his TFL and third down stop in his best game of the season. He missed the second half of spring drills after undergoing internal surgery (not related to an injury).
2002 (Jr.)?He played in all 14 games including the Alamo Bowl on defense, including starts in the first two games of the season. He saw action for 301 snaps overall, posting 17 tackles (10 solo), with a third down stop and a fumble recovery. He checked in for the fall at about 20 pounds lighter than his playing weight at the start of his sophomore season. He owned the best bench press on the team (475 pounds) in the spring conditioning tests.
2001 (Soph.)?He saw action in all 13 games, with four starts including the Fiesta Bowl, playing 383 snaps from scrimmage in the regular season. He had 23 tackles (15 solo), including three quarterback sacks, tied for third most on the team. He had six tackles for loss in all, also tied for third, and added two third down stops, a forced fumble and a key recovery, coming at the CU 1 to stop a third quarter scoring threat by Nebraska. His force came when he sacked Texas quarterback Chris Simms in the Big 12 championship game, setting up a Buff touchdown; his other sacks came against Kansas State and Iowa State. He had a season-high five tackles at Iowa State, and had four in the bowl game against Oregon, which included two for losses.
AT NE OKLAHOMA A&M: 1999-2000 (Fr./Fr.-RS)?He was ranked as the No. 11 defensive lineman in the nation by SuperPrep, which named him to its JUCO 100 list. He played one year at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, sitting out as a freshman as he wasn’t quite all the way back from a broken fibula he suffered in his last high school game. As a sophomore for the Golden Norsemen, he had 115 tackles (90 solo), with 23 tackles for loss that included eight quarterback sacks. He also added three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and 12 hurries for 8-2 NEO, which was coached by Dale Patterson. His top game came against Butler County, when he had 17 tackles (11 solo), with four tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble. He played exclusively on defense on the JUCO level.
HIGH SCHOOL?As a senior, he was a member of the Houston Chronicle Top 100 for the state of Texas, when USA Today also selected him as its defensive player of the year for the state. SuperPrep and Prep Football Report selected him to their all-Southwest teams, with PFR ranking him as the No. 87 player in the state. He was also an All-Greater Houston team member at defensive tackle as a junior and senior, and was a three-year, first-team all-district performer at both offensive and defensive tackle his sophomore through senior years. As a senior, he was in on 130 tackles, with 15 quarterback sacks, 10 forced fumbles (with six recoveries) and an interception; he was the leading tackler on a defense that allowed just 171 yards per game. He also blocked three kicks in his career. On offense, he started at tackle for three years, never allowing a sack and being called for only two penalties. He suffered a broken fibula in his last prep game, when Forest Brook lost in the second round of the playoffs. He once had a five-sack game (against Friendswood his senior year). FBHS was the District 21-4A champion his sophomore, junior and senior campaigns, posting a 9-2 mark his senior year and 10-2 record his junior year under coach Ronald Holmes.
ACADEMICS?He is majoring in communication at Colorado.
PERSONAL?Born Oct. 13, 1980 in Houston, Texas. He was a high school teammate of current Buff Corey Alexander. Hobbies include weightlifting, running and playing video games. (First name pronounced dee-on-dray; last name pronounced flu-Ellen.)
