2008 OUTLOOK: Morgan is a veteran distance runner who has had the best winter training of her life and may advance to the Big 12 in the 5 or 10,000-meters.

2007: Did not compete.

2006 (at Virgina Tech): Redshirt. Did not compete.

2005 (at Virgina Tech): Ekemo qualified for regionals during the outdoor season in the 5k with a mark of 16:51. She placed 20th overall with a 16:58 as a freshman. Her personal bests from her freshman season are 2:14 (800), 4:31 (1,500), 9:47 (3k, set at the Big East Indoor Championships) and 16:51 (5k).

CROSS COUNTRY: Ekemo ran one race for the Buffs. She placed 14th at the Rocky Mountain Shootout as CU’s No. 6 racer. She also ran in the open race at pre-nats and placed 41st.

CROSS COUNTRY (at Virginia Tech): Ekemo was named the Rookie of the Year in 2004. She earned her best mark as a member of the Hokies at the Southeast Regional with a time of 21:14.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ekemo won four titles, four runner-ups and a pair of third-place finishes at the Alaska State High School Championships. As a freshman, she was part of the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relay teams. Ekemo took third in the 800 and  1,600-meter runs her sophomore season. In 2003 and 2004, she placed second in the 800 and 1,600. As a senior, she won the 3,200 and was a member of the championship 4x400-relay. Ekemo owns school records in the 800 (2:13), 1,600 (4:57) and 3,200 (9:55). 

ACADEMICS: Ekemo intends to major in Psychology and journalism at Colorado. She hopes to pursue a career in journalism after graduation. Ekemo was a member of the honor roll in high school.  

PERSONAL: Morgan Marie Ekemo was born on Feb. 14, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska. She is the daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Ekemo. Ekemo has an older sister, Afton. Two of her uncles, Richard and Doug Hotes, wrestled at the University of Oregon. Ekemo lists her hobbies as hiking, fishing, biking, reading, shopping, cooking and drawing. She has volunteered in local triathlons and worked at the YMCA at VTU. Ekemo meet comedian Pauly Shore after a comedy show at VTU. She participated in gymnastics growing up and was in art school. Ekemo is a fifth generation Alaskan.
