AT COLORADO: This Season (Jr.)?Selected by his teammates as CU’s special teams captain for the 2007 season. Enters the fall listed second at the “mike” inside linebacker position, and will also be a fixture on multiple special team units as well. He was selected to the New York Post's preseason All-America team as the paper's "special teams phenom." He was the recipient of the Dick Anderson Award, presented to the player with outstanding toughness for his efforts in spring practice. He was rewarded for his hard work with a scholarship following the ’06 season.

2006 (Soph.)?He saw action in 11 games, all on special teams (he missed the Kansas State game with a concussion. He tied for third on the team in special team points with nine, as he had five tackles (two solo), a fumble recovery and a knockdown block.

He had four tackles in the three main spring scrimmages, with three third down stops and a pass deflection.

2005 (Fr.-RS)?He saw action in the final six games of the season, including the Champs Sports Bowl, all on special teams as he worked his way into the lineup through hard work in practice. He had one solo tackle on coverage unit duty, and won the Scout Team Defense Award for the Texas A&M game.

2004 (Fr.)?Redshirted; he did not see any action but practiced all season at inside linebacker after joining the team as a walk-on for preseason practices. He won the Scout Team Defense Award for the North Texas game.

HIGH SCHOOL?A team captain his senior year and two-year starter, he was a second team all-conference selection and member of the Oahu All-Star squad, while he also was named his team’s defensive MVP and most inspirational player. That year, he racked up 90 tackles (55 solo) with 10 for losses, six sacks, one forced fumble, two pass deflections and one interception. He also punted the ball five times, averaging 35 yards per boot, with three kicks inside the 20 and a long of 45 yards. His junior year, he was a second-team all-conference performer, as he totaled 55 stops (20 solo), five tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, one pass breakup and one interception. His sophomore season he finished with 25 tackles (15 unassisted), making one start. Under coach Kale Ane, Punahou was 7-4 his senior year, and 6-4 both his junior and sophomore seasons. His top moment came during his senior campaign when he blocked a punt late in a game against top-ranked Kamehameha, as Punahou went on to record the 14-6 upset. He was also a member of the wrestling team as a freshman and sophomore and competed in paddling, which was non-school league sport.

ACADEMICS?He is majoring in Journalism (News-Editorial) at Colorado. Earned second-team Academic All-Big 12 Conference honors as a sophomore.

PERSONAL?Born August 11, 1985 in Plantation, Fla. Hobbies include outrigger paddling (he participates in summer leagues), hanging out with friends, going to the beach, lifting weights and body surfing. He has lived in three countries in addition to the United States: Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Australia. R.J. stands for Robert Joseph.
