AT OKLAHOMA (2017-20)—He played in 34 career games for the Sooners, starting 10 … He saw action at both linebacker and safety … He totaled 78 tackles (49 solo), one tackle for loss, two interceptions, four passes defended, and one forced fumble in his Sooner career … In 2020, he played in nine games and started one, playing at both linebacker and safety, with nine tackles and a half tackle for loss … In a Cotton Bowl win over No. 10 Florida, he tallied three tackles… In 2019, he played in four games and had five tackles on the year …  In 2018, he played in 11 games and started eight at safety, recording 54 total tackles (31 solo), a half tackle for loss, one interception, three passes defended, and a forced fumble … Against Alabama in the College Football Playoff Semifinal, he had three tackles before having to exit the game in the second quarter with an injury… He had seven tackles and a forced fumble in a win over Texas in the Big 12 Championship … He played in 10 games in 2017, starting one, with 10 tackles, one interception, and a pass defended.
 
HIGH SCHOOL—Rated as a five-star recruit by 247Sports, where he was ranked the No.27 overall player in the class and the No. 3 safety, and No. 5 player from Texas… A four-star recruit by the 247 Composite, which ranked him as a top-100 player overall, No. 12 safety and No. 12 player from Texas … ESPN rated him as a four-star recruit, the No. 237 player in the class, No. 15 safety and No. 36 player from Texas … A four-star recruit by Rivals, ranked the No. 15 player at his position and No. 22 player from the state of Texas… A U.S. Army All-American… He played three years of varsity football for Carroll Senior for head coach Hal Wasson… In his high school career, Carroll compiled a 32-6 record … Carroll went 10-2 as a senior and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs before losing to a DeSota team that featured former CU receivers Laviska Shenault Jr. and K.D. Nixon … As a senior, he played in 10 games where he  recorded 41 total tackles (28 solo), two passes defended and one forced fumble despite missing the last three games of the season with an injury … On offense, he carried the ball six times for 51 yards and a touchdown and caught 26 passes for 428 yards and four touchdowns … Carroll went 9-3 as a junior, advancing to the second round of the state playoffs … As a junior, he played in 11 games totaling 101 tackles (64 solo), one tackle for loss, one interception, two passes defended and a forced fumble… Carroll was 13-1 in his sophomore season and made it to the state playoff quarterfinals… As a sophomore in 10 games, had 33 tackles (22 solo), two tackles for loss, and an interception.
 
ACADEMICS—Barnes is pursuing graduate studies at Colorado … He graduated from Oklahoma in December 2020 with a degree in Communication … He was named to the Academic All-Big 12 second team in 2018 … Earned the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter Academic All-Colorado honorable mention team.
 
PERSONAL—He was born December 3, 1998 in Dallas, Texas … Heis the son of former Oklahoma Sooner linebacker Reggie Barnes, who played for OU from 1989-92 and played 23 games in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys, earning a Super Bowl Ring with the Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX … His dad had solid games against the Buffs while with Oklahoma, compiling 26 tackles in three games, including 15 in 1990, the season the Buffs won the National Championship.
