AT COLORADO: This Season (Fr.)—He practiced in the spring at both linebacker and safety after joining the team as a walk-on prior to the start of drills.  He had one tackle in the main spring scrimmages.
HIGH SCHOOL—As a senior, he earned honorable mention All-Santa Clara County honors from the San Jose Mercury-News, while also being tabbed first team All-Mount Hamilton Division in the Blossom Valley Athletic League and his team’s defensive player of the year (as a junior, he won Leland’s Most Versatile Player Award for his efforts at linebacker, receiver and placekicker).  He was in on 106 tackles (69 solo, two quarterback sacks) as a senior, when he also had three interceptions, returning one 81 yards for a touchdown against Gilroy, and a fumble recovery; he had six games with 10 or more tackles, including a career-high 16 (11 solo) in a 28-21 win over Sobrato.  On offense, he caught 22 passes for 275 yards (12.5 per, no touchdowns), with his top game in a loss to Oak Grove when he had season highs of six receptions for 78 yards.  He converted 40-of-43 extra points and 5-of-9 field goals (long of 36), while 17 of his 61 kickoffs went for touchbacks.  As a junior, when he garnered second-team All-League honors, he recorded 61 tackles (39 solo), registering eight in four different games.  He also had an interception, a forced fumble and a recovery.  He caught 12 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns on offense, where he also had 13 rushes for 67 yards and a touchdown.  He converted 44-of-48 extra point kicks and 6-of-10 field goals (long of 47).  Under coach Mike Carrozzo, Leland was 9-2 his senior year and was invited for the first time to the CCS Open Division playoffs (lost in the first round to Palo Alto, 20-6), and was 8-4 his junior season.  He also lettered twice in baseball as both an outfielder and a pitcher.  As a junior he was All-League performer and was named the team’s most valuable pitcher.
ACADEMICS—He is majoring in Business at Colorado, and was a member of the Dean’s List as a freshman.  He won the President’s Award for Educational Excellence while in high school and was also the recipient of the Golden State seal Merit Diploma.  He was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
PERSONAL—He was March 8, 1994 in San Jose, Calif.  His hobbies include playing golf and baseball.  His younger brother, Matt, is a freshman on the baseball team at the University of Kansas.  An uncle, Lindsay Meggs, played baseball at UCLA and in the Kansas City Royals organization and is the head coach at the University of Washington; his cousin, Joe Meggs, just completed his baseball career at UW where his brother Jack has signed to play, and another cousin, Kelly, is on the women’s basketball team at UC-Irvine. He passed up several scholarship offers to walk-on at CU.
